I love European/Foreign films, and would like to know YOUR recommendations and must see's.

Here's a few:
Kontroll - Has anyone here seen this film???
This is one of my favourite european/foreign/subtitled films. Its set in Budapest's underground rail system following a group of ticket inspectors as they go about their work. There's a 'good vs evil' struggle in this film, and a dark atmosphere too, which is balanced out with excellant characters and sense of humour - worth a watch if you dont mind sub's

'R-POINT' a Korean film about a group of soilders who end up at a haunted house in the middle of the countryside. Sounds cliched, but this is brilliant, scarey, eerie, dark movie with a twist in the story - again, worth a watch if you dont mind sub's...

Pans Labyrinth - The majority of folk have probably seen this, so no synopsis really needed....great film, great effects, great story. Pretty violent, but worth a watch...
From the same director, The Devils Backbone is a pretty cool film, again, set in War time Spain, this story is set in a boys orphanage, where the ghost of a child haunts the corridors....

Nightwatch - I think this is Russian film, (-and I think theres another film called Daywatch to accompany it,) I've seen it once and loved it, I've been looking out for it since on the net, so fingers crossed...

Molly, DayWatch should be easily available in the usual shady corners of the interweb, I watched it about a year ago.
If this qualifies as warez discussion, delete this and pretend I never said nuffin.
And yeah, they're Russian, loosely based on the rather good books by Sergei Lukyanenko.

Edit: actually, I see Daywatch has been released in the US on dvd, UK release on Jan 28th apparently.

PatriciaS - Love em too! the one you recommended, Tale of Two Sisters- I shall keep my lil eye out for it fo sure, I love Korean films - and I love La Femme Nikita - its brilliant, much, much, much better than the American remake 'The Assasin'. I found their version of the character Nikita, to be a bit of a wuss. No balls, and too schmaltzy!

Hey, there was one other film out (Japanese, I think) about revenge on a child killer. I cant for the life of me remember the damn name of the film, but this guy gets stabbed by the parents of the children he murdered... - LADY VENGENCE!?! thats what it was called (I think, please someone clarify!

) It was pretty heavy, dark and gruesome.

Anymore folks, please add I'm on the hunt for some good foreign films

City of Lost Children - Concept designers should love the visuals
Brotherhood of the Wolf- Sweet French action film set during colonial times
Amelie- Hard to believe that this one hasn't been mentioned yet

Anything by Takahashi Miike- A couple have been mentioned before this. Check out Imprint. I'ts from a series of shows that Showtime did. They gave a bunch of horror directors a one hour show and his is the only one that they refused to air.

I loved that, it's like someone was watching a period drama and thought "Well, this is alright but what it really needs is ninjas and kung fu and monsters. And Monica Belluci with her baps out. Yeah, that'd be better.."

Has been mentioned, but it's still worth mentioning again as it's a superb film that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

R point was quite good, sort of Platoon meets the Shining, Daylight was on a limited release in cinemas,

Internal Affairs (The Departed was a remake of this Chinese film...roughly 90% the same story)
Taboo...(Japanese movie about homosexuality and Samurai)

Pan's Labyrinth is one of my top favorite films. Some people say the the bad guys weren't nazis just fascists, but I'm pretty sure I saw the Nazi Iron Eagle on the sleeve of Vidal.

well, he's not actually "directing" next, more like Producing.

Pans labyrinth wasnt subtitled for me lol

, i though it was overrated, not that i didnt enjoy it, but well

" Y tu mama tambien" and "amores perros" dont know the english names, both are really FANTASTIC mexican movies, the story is great, the direction is top quality and the acting is top notch. Both are about love, sort off,something like that, a lot of character development and interesting situations. Must watch.

The same goes for "City of God", brazilian movie about the life in a "fabela" trough different time periods, one of my favorite films ever, incredibly real,what you see there is exactly how life is in poor zones in latin america. No sugarcoating.

Havent watch spanish cinema for a while, i recomend " hable con ella", a weird story of 2 lonely men, both of them in love with comatose women. Almost anything of Pedro Almodovar is good.
Also, "El espinazo del diablo" which is a ghost story in a internship school during the middle of the spanish civil war.

Sorry for not knowing the english names, i watch them in the original language
