First post to this forum, 2nd to CA.
I used DaveTheOriginal's beautiful linework from pg.77 - Quick painting, didn't do the original justice... Thanks for the nice art Dave

Wholeweat: Thanks, glad you liked the lines. I think you did a nice job on them even if you're not too happy with it. There's a nice moody feel to it, and you've picked some good colours. The only small crit I'd offer is the light on the eye doesn't quite work, but other than that, good job mate![]()

Funfetus: A good effort, it's nice to see people going for different lighting. As a crit, I'd say try to think about form when you colour, eg. the girls eye sockets don't have any shadw to differetiate the depth of her eyes from the rest of her face. Hope that helps![]()

I have been looking through this thread for a while now but this is my first post. I am very new at this (obviously). This is the first picture i sat down with and gave a serious try to color. i would love any help anyone could give me.
Please don't worry about being harsh. i did this picture in ArtRage. The original line art was done by Sanejack and is found on page 37.
hey dave I'll be posting sometime maybe sunday two of your line art drawings from pages 77-79 I believe. I really am impressed by your talent and I think working with your stuff since it's so versitile for color imagination will help me out much but since the fall semester started I don't have time until the weekend to work on them so just a heads up so you can tell me what you think.
Thanks for the feedback Dave, and I like your drawings so much I had to color another one! - This is a really fun exercise to do, as the lineart makes it much easier to paint. I kind of messed with the original integrity of the piece as I flipped it so you can't read the nametag - It originally said "Bruce" - I can flip it back though if you don't like that - anyway thanks again for the nice art![]()
- this one is from page 79

Here's another one - DaveTheOriginal's lines from page 56, I love your lineart Dave!

Cool! There's a refreshing amount of talent being shown in these last few posts, give yourselves a pat on the back guys!
Galione: Glad you like my art, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it.
Wholewheat_keyboard: I'm honoured, thanks! You're doing some great work here. Don't worry about flipping the image, it's quite interesting seeing what people do with the lines. I particularly like what you've done with the Clockwork Frog, it's got a nice moody/melancholic atmosphere to it. The only small suggestion I'd make is that the Bruce image may be a tad dark, have you calibrated your monitor? Your work shows too much skill to make me think you're using dark images to hide things you're not sure about, so I'm guessing your screen may be off slightly. Enjoying your work a lot mate, keep it up!
iolarnula: Very nice, the pic has some nice colour choices, and I'm impressed with how you've rendered the clothing, well done!

Hi Wishes, just realised I missed this one, many apologies for not commenting on it sooner! I really like this piece, interesting choice of texture. The way you've handled the skin shading is nice too! A lot of people on this thread are doing some great work recently!
One small crit: the shadow on the left of her face looks a bit too dark, granted it would be darker by being close to her hair, but not quite by that much. Lighten it a touch and you have a cool image in your hands![]()

Seeing as there seems to be renewed interest in this thread, here are some lines that I did for a colouring tutorial for Digital Arts magazine (see my sketchbook thread for a link to the tutorial).
If anyone colours this, it would be worth sending your efforts to the mag, they may be interested in printing them! [email protected]
There's also a hi-res version of the lines in here in case anyone wants them.
Enjoy![]()

Thnx Dave! No apologies neededI wasn't sure which side of the face you meant (some people say the left side, others her left side, so I wasn't sure), the right stood out the most to me, but my boyfriend thought you might mean the left side (her right). So which side did you mean?
Btw, what do the the numbers 23:23 stand for, I spot them in a lot of your sketches and works. I guess it's an indication of time, but I'm curious what they mean or where they come from
@ Wholewheat_keyboard: I like your colouring a lot. Especially Dave's frog looks good. The highlighted lines on the legs are very nice.
Dave - Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked itThese were very fun to do, and there will be more to come! I think you are right about my monitor, it's a piece and I have noticed the images look a bit different on other monitors, I'll have to see if I can adjust it so the images display more accurately in the future.
Wishes - Thanks for the complimentsI'm so happy people enjoy these!! - I've been coming to this site for a while, and have always found it pretty scary to post anything, but the encouragement is making me bold, so I can't stop yet!
This is a color of Brkofdon's nice lineart from page 23 - Didn't come out quite as I'd intended, but here goes..

Wholewheat...
A lot of professional photo print labs will calibrate your monitor for a small fee and it will be pretty much standard settings so your stuff will look better on any monitor. I've seen it for about $25 Canadian. It's something to consider. Nice work by the way. I really like the texture of your stuff. I couldn't help but notice you reversed the frog when you posted it. All the text on the frog ("23:23" and "Made in England") is backwards.![]()
"I don't love her! She kicked me in the face!"
My Sketchbook
Worked on this one a while back, but never had the motivation to finish it. So I figured I'd put it up here to see if anyone else wanted to give it a go. (Mind you, this was originally posted under an old username (BHerring). Just so you know I didn't steal it)

Thanks FX Morph for this awesome linework! It was incredibly clean and easy to work with, although I can't say I did it much justice. But it kept me busy for a little while, so my thanks to you![]()

subsonic - Thanks for the advice on the calibration, never had it done before but going to soon. Glad you enjoyed my stuff - props to all the nice linework contributed by other artists, it really helps a lot.
Used Artmessiah's sketch from previous page, thanks dude![]()

2nd Post in this forum. Just messing around with Dave's Lines. Colors seem to be a lot darker in this post then in photoshop though.
My first post here on CA! Been lurking for months, but never dared to post anything
This lineart was fun..
Wishes: Sorry, I should have phrased that better! Your bf was right I meant the dark part is on our left and her right, between the main mass of hair and the strand falling on her face.
The 23:23 thing has been "retired" now. It used to have some personal significance once upon a time. When this faded I tried to stop using it but people started to ask where it was so I started using it again. It's since been replaced with 187 because I got married on 1st of August this year. Check out my sketchbook thread to see if you can spot them all!
Wholeweat: You don't have to spend money getting someone else to do it, you can always run Adobe Gamma and do it yourself. It doesn't take too long.
cjo1968: Something weird has happened to the image here mate, the lines all look really blurred...sort of like when you take a marker to heavy paper and it starts to bleed
Xinos: Great first post! Love the fact you've added the radiousity/ambient light. And the "slow down" is a nice touch. (Incidentally, the first time I was driving and the sign changed to "slow down" it cracked me up!) The only small crit I would make is that the order of colour for the flames should be inverted, ie. the red should be on the outside because flames get brighter towards the middle.
Good work guys!![]()

I've been viewing this thread for a few months now and think it's great idea. I figured it's about time i actually post some of the stuff i've coloured.
lines by Legato from page 84.
lines by brkofdon from way back on page 15.
And i just drew this so if anyone is bored enough feel free to colour it.
Thanks to every one that posts their lines.
@Brandon Herring -> Wow! That looks great. Thank you so much for taking the time to color my Poison Ivy picture. It looks amazing, and she's Nekkid!
Thought I'd add another piece. Hope you guys have fun with this one.

Decided to try coloring Dave The Original's Illustration but, since I knew I wouldn't have access to a tablet at all times, decided to go back to my old pre-Wacom® way of working, using only Photoshop and a mouse. Added a few new tricks to my repertoire, but definitely reminded myself why I got a tablet in the first place.
Ended up really getting into it and, about 3 days and somewhere around 10-20 hours later, have decided to call it done. I'm sure it's not perfect, and that I could probably spend another week playing with and tweaking it (in fact, I tweaked it while writing this post), but I think it's time to move on.
Thanks to DTO for the cool lines to color... great to have some quality artwork to play with. For the most part, no trouble defining forms (hair was tricky, and I missed the goggles at first), and the subject matter was fun. I used the posted version, since the "hi-res" lines linked to was, for some reason, even smaller!
This is actually my first "final" artwork posted to ConceptArt.org. Eventually, I hope to post some cool original stuff of my own. Hopefully, in the meantime, with Dave's permission, I can use this in my portfolio (with proper credit given, of course).
Enjoy!![]()
