Sketchbook of a hairy, hairy man... [UPDATED February 24th]

Thanks for taking your time to look at my sketchbook. I haven't been active on this site for a while, but I decided to come back with some new work which has hopefully improved. (See for yourself in my last post)

So hey, welcome to the Sketchbook, and do come again.

New update. First time I'm drawing two characters in the same composition. Work is heavily referenced on a piece in Cutting Edge Comics, mostly because I wanted to study interaction between two characters, depth and overlapping bodyparts.

Obviously still needs a lot of work, but please, feel free to give your two cents and help me out a little, I can do with some heavy and harsh critique if I ever want to make this work.

I guess you want to improve you'r anatomy? well this 'ol books are helping me alot: http://acid.noobgrinder.com/Loomis/ especially the "Figure Drawing for all it's Worth".
I am far from good enough myself to say exatly how you shoud improve, but i hope the link is helpfull

my tip for you is to study some anatomy and proportions, this is what I do. Stand in a mirror, notice the length of your upper and lower arm, for example the elbows are normally in the middle of the stomach and your hands cover the middle of your thighs etc etc. I'm sure you'll be great with some practice =)

lysgaard: Thanks for the compliment, although I can't really take the credit since it's referenced. I have the Loomis books myself, and I agree that they're amazing

Abee: Man, I'll be happy if a qualify as 'good' some day. Everything beyong that would be a blast. The above drawings were mostly done to play around with dynamic anatomy when I was going cross-eyed with drawing mannequins. Just to take my mind off them and have a little fun. If there's something odd about the anatomy in the drawings, point it out. I need the critique.



And here's a little thing I worked on for about 45 minutes. Feel free to rip it apart.



Yeah, I need to work on the hands, I know. Mostly done for the faces and the hair, got a bit sidetracked when I suddenly started drawing the body.

Did yet another drawing and coloured it. Not too happy with the background. Comments would be very much appreciated.

This is a key example of where you need to work on anatomy. The Left elbow (appears) as long as the whole right arm! You have a similar problem on most of your newer updates. Filling up a page with nothing but accurate anatomy will work wonders for your technique.

You aren't doing a bad job but a little bit of know how will really pull out your potential ALOT.

MaxoftheSouth: Thanks for stopping by in my sketchbook. I took another look at the image you mentioned, and if you're referring to the left arm from our perspective (Being the one that holds the hammer) the elbow actually appears a lot longer because there's a wide scalemail sleeve hanging down from the upper arm. Sucky colouring and linework on my part makes it appear as part of the elbow, and there's never a good excuse for sucky linework.

That's not to say I couldn't use quite the few (if not an insane amount) of anatomy studies.

Well, last night there was a conversation in chat about Barbarians bellydancing. This sparked a very insane train of thought and led to the ultimate goal: Me drawing a fat barbarian bellydancing. It's not good, it's not even half decent... But you get the idea.
