Yeah figure drawing. I'm fairly pleased with this in terms of capturing the weight and twist. Displeased in regards to how flat the modeling is and how weak my anatomy is. . . especially in the legs.

    Feedback is always welcome.

Hey thanks ped454! Yeah, I'm a fan of line drawing. . . mainly because my value skills are sub par. I'm working on it though. Thanks for the comment!

Here is a sketch I did for the Nightly Character Workout.

This is a series I did for my anatomy class. The assignment was to draw your hand in a resting position, palmar grip position, and a tri-digit grip position. Once we'd drawn the surface anatomy we were to then draw the skeletal and muscle anatomy from reference and imagination.

    Cheers!

your studies are great, but why don't you shade them a little to make them more realistic instead of just outlining?

Thanks atlantik! You too. Your stuff is really coming along!

Thanks zwergi! Yeah, I'm working to curb my bias toward line work and improve my skills with value. Its a weakness. However in regards to the hand studies I was playing with line hiearchy and lost lines and didn't want value to be fighting with the line quality. Thanks for the comment!

Ha! Sorry zwergi, but these next three posts are kinda more of the same. The following three pieces are imagined skeletons based off cartoons produced by Ben Caldwell in his Action Cartooning book.

    Enjoy!

Hey thanks 28chelseaslater! I really enjoy doing that type of line work found in those skeletons. I get a little anal about the presicion though. . . and in the end I think they come out a little stiff.

From the amount of viewings and comments I've recieved, the line work isn't appreciated as much as it should be!! So here, I offer up more weak digital paintings.

    Cookies!

    Hey
The stylized skeletons are awesome! And the clean linework is so... clean! I think it would be nice if you tried to use a bit more lineweight variation though (thicker line on the shadow side and lighter on the lit side).
And I like the colours in the last painting you posted.
    Keep it up
When in doubt, run and shout.

Thanks windmaker!! Yeah, I'll try playing with the line variation the way you sugget. I haven't thought of it that way before. The skeletons above I was increasing the line weight based on its overall importance in describing the form. Currently I'm working on variation with the idea in mind of how much space is behind the line, i.e. more space behind an edge the thicker the line. I hadn't thought about variation in terms of value. Thanks!

Here is a digital painting I did via a Jason Chan tutorial out of Imagine FX. I took Chan's drawing and lighting source, completely changed his colors and made some minor adjustments to the form. The break down is a simplified version of Chan's break down. Each break down is a seperate PS layer.
