    Question "Open Source" Logo Cavalcade!

    • This project is here to mock the idea of "branding" or "company image" when it comes to choosing a logo for ones business. It is also here to show how manipulation in visual creation can be synonymous with open source software creation.

    • What I am looking for is the transformation of the typical phone-using emoticon duet -- & -- into something of the artist's own interpretation.

    • Bigger:

    • Theme / mood / style / general facial expression (etc.) can be left completely up to your own imagination. Complete transgressions from the initial image are appreciated!

    • I am trying to take what is a sort of plain and boring, reduced image and working to make it completely and constantly transient and changing in appearance via the continual open source modification of its physiognomy by constantly differing artists and individuals working outside of any contract or licensing order -- so that the resulting process could never be considered a company "brand" or "logo" by any conventional sense of the concept.

    • Play with these images and create new mutations out of them!

This excercize shouldn't be taken too seriously!

    UPDATE!

This project is to be exhibited at an upcoming CC Salon event in London (either in July or August). Your contribution will become part of the presentation if submitted in time!

The CC Salon is being organized by Tim Cowlishaw and the folks from the Open Rights Group. Below is the bulk of Tim's initial call for participation:

The CC Salon is a monthly event focused on building a community of artists and developers around Creative Commons licenses, standards, and technology, and have been running with great success in other cities around the world, including San Francisco, Berlin and Johannesberg. All are welcome, especially anyone interested in Creative Commons, copyright, Free Culture, Open Source, Art, Media, and Music.

If you'd like to take part, whether by performing or exhibiting your work, giving a talk or presentation, providing sponsorship or other support, or by getting involved in the running of the event, we'd love to hear from you, Please drop me a line if this sounds like you! We'd be especially keen to hear from artists, musicians and anyone else who publishes creative work under an open license, or anyone whose cultural practice involves appropriation, quotation, remixing, sampling and collage. Do get in touch if you'd like the opportunity to show off your work!

Please do pass this message on to anyone else who may be interested.

    Many thanks,

    Tim
I messaged Tim about considering this project for inclusion. He was excited about the prospect and responded with...

This looks fantastic, and exactly the sort of thing I was hoping for. However, might I suggest that we schedule it for a later event (July or August maybe) so it can be announced at the first one in order to encourage participation in it, in preparation for an event at a later date? Will definitely get it up on our website too, when it's up and running.
So it looks like we'll be participating as a prelude of things to come in the first event and a fully fledged exhibit of sorts in the second or third!
