Wow, these are pretty dope! I'm a huge fan of collage art (if it's done right). Are you familiar with Dave McKean? If not, you should check out his work. 2nd piece is my favorite, but all are great! Nice work Idiot! (LOL, that sounds bad)

Tom, these are a huge departure from your work, and yet there's such a strong sense of finesse in the technique that it looks as though you've been doing this kinda work forever. The MinIsEmo is probably my favorite. I was scrolling down the initial dump, and was thinking,"Man, it just needs a little bit of this, and he's golden." And then the MinIsEmo did just that. The fourth one (power switch head), is also a big favorite and the design work around it is very very cool. Subjectwise, I gotta say that retro robots are one of the most overused elements in illustration, and yet, you created one here in such a refreshing way that I wouldn't be surprised if you see more people mimicking this in the near future.

yep very nice robots, lets hear it for retro

I like the MinIsEmo too, but the very first one and the [third?] with the fork are cool also, I think mainly because these three are the most dynamic.

Pencilator: Haha, min loves it Yeah I'm not that happy with #2 actually. Concept I like, but as a picture it's not so great. I'm definetly learning things doing this that I can apply to landscapes and everywhere else really. Cheers!
SprayNation: Thanks dude! I didn't know McKean by name before I posted these, glad I do now. Great stuff. The sort of things that come up like "Nice work, idiot!" is why I've kept this name so long haha. Cheers!
    Asoir: Thanks man
MattMatt: Yes you are. I will have to make you a robut then, give me some time though.
    Character: Thanks buddy!
Lewiston: Hahah, wha? Thanks Franke and Mücke! Never had supporters before, is it monetary as well?
Tyranx: Hey Layne! Where've you been lately? We're missing joo!
Redehlert: Robots tickle you in your special place? kinky. Cheers dave!
Mike Dutton: Damn Mike, posts like this and your blog really make me think you are an articulate genius. Thanks for sharing your brilliant thoughts. /endegoboost (what it's true, and I think you need an ego boost maybe.)
yoitisi: Thanks! Makes sense, those 3 are the ones built from scratch. Fresh sketched and all. The others are derived from these and focus less on composition.
I was ink: Thanks man! Glad you liked the PSD. Make sure and let me know if you give this a shot I want to see. Be sure to check out imageafter's texture section for some good high res and free pics. Cheers!

    ---

Going to sit on this one for now - it's still technically a WIP. Lot's of things I want to play with on it, maybe add legs even. Taken quite awhile to do this one, huff huff. Maybe no more robots for a bit @_@.

Me so horny. Me love you long time.

Tom, can't say this enough - these diversions from your usual work are fantastic.
I think what I like most about them is that they look functional to some degree. The functionality and the Noir-Deco combination is really keen. Can't wait to see what you do next.

Yoitisi: Thanks Robot is finished, picture as a whole is not ... maybe. I dunno.
Romance: Rob, if only you were a mail-order bride from vietnam... Mixing robots with what you said, noir-deco was just too odd to resist. Cheers buddy

    ---

Another before bed; I think I will take a break for a few days, let these hands rest.

But for now, I give you robut hugs.

Might dropping a sort of shadow on the background be an idea? I already got the feeling he is standing in front of some kind of artwork somehow, don't really know why. Also, using an entirely different image, slightly darker than the present image, and cutting it to the shape of his shadow could be cool.

On the other hand, doing more with the background might distract the attention from the robot itself...

Anyway, I still think it looks cool already

u cow.. really digging the second last one.. so are we going to see more? I mean it would be kewl to see you experiment more towards visualising these before going off.. or something more dynamic.. more wack.. I mean u've only been doing these for few days.. and it's looking crazy..

haha, you know how it is, I get excited and already talking about what's to be coming.. you do need to get some sleep tho!! you are going to turn into a zombie!!! an owl!

    we should go rabbit hunting..

keep them scribbling happening mate, looking sweet!!

I know two other CAers who have similar techniques (bot collage+paint). And I have my own process too.

We should all do a t-dome someday.

    Dave: Thanks buddy
Yoitisi: Hmm hmm, using a shadow would definetly help ground them more in the enviroment and could really knock out a lot of the disfunctions of the acute symmetry. I should give that a shot.
Min: Hmm hmm, I did that a lot more on the second to last one. Now I guess I'm studying something else, and also trying to figure out what that dynamism is perhaps. Let's go rabbit hunting this weekend. <-- people probably think this is some wierd code.
    koppa: thanks duder
FlipMcgee: Hmmhmm really? Sweet. TD? I dunno, I'm on break from robuts. Using the mouse on these - just wasn't as fast using the stylus to transform etc - messed up my hands . Cheers!
TheST: Robut hugs! Thanks man, cheers!

Okay, no more robuts for awhile. Cheers!

    Update: New Robut!
    ---
I made this one for my good friend Victoria (Entdroid)
    http://www.absens.com.ar/
    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=68534

It sat around for a month or so, doing these robuts is a little rough on my hand - have to use the mouse too much Lot's more paint and detail in this one, wish I could have popped it out of monochrome a little more though... hrm.

Tom dude, thank you so much. I'm busy with some photo-manip illos and these have just inspired me to continue working on them with unsurpassed enthusiasm and gusto.
Very well done, these are by far my favourites from you - very mature and a beautifully developed aesthetic.
Ashley Wood and all those other roebutt designers can go sit in the corner!

ciao man, looking forward to more!
