    K.I.D.'s Sketchbook

Hello everyone. Here are some of my sketches. I've been out of school a few years now, and I sure miss all the studio classes. I don't know how it goes for everyone else, but I find it hard to stay loose when I can't sketch every day. The first four images are from when I was in school, so they are very outdated.

Everything else is from 2006. At least, the sketches I'd be willing show.

Goals for 2008: Hmm, a little fuzzy in that area. I have two major shows at the end of the year, so most of my time will be going into that, but I have to admit to a bit of wandering in my work. I'm at a loss to decide whether I need to push myself in a direction of looser work, or more detail. Maybe the answer is somewhere in between? And, as always, I think composition is something I need to work on improving as well.

Any critiques would be welcome. Thanks for looking.

    hey K.I.D.!

i can't believe nobody posted in here before, i wanted to thank you for your comment in my sb.

i like your lifestudies, especially the figure drawings in your first post. they show that you have a very good understanding of form.

the other works don't have the quality of the lifedrawings yet, i would suggest you to stick to those studies from life, i think that's really important to understand the things well enough to be able to draw them from imagination.

hey keep it up , i think you have great potential!
    cheers

Hey thanks for stopping by my sketchbook. I am glad you did, since I found your SB quite entertaining. The life drawings are the best so fars, and I'll suggest to work better from reference so you have a good way to double proof your shapes and form. I really like the dragon face guy. Keep it up!

This is a study for a painting I'm working on. I'm not sure what I'll call it yet, but something along the lines of "Dragon Paleontologist". I'm not sure. Anyway, it's been a long time since I've updated this. I have a lot of sketches to add too, but no time to photograph them right now. I'm just impulsively posting today, because I'm tired of working.

I'm so happy. This is the first time I've had off in about a month. No more work...until tomorrow! Here's a sketch I did last month. Now that I look at it, I'm not too happy about the chin, but I kind of like the composition in general. It was a chick off of a poster I saw. Really beautiful model. She had hispanic/indian features. Not super exotic, but definitely handsome.

Your dragon..... could you do that in coloured pencil? I think you could take it further.

    Hi Guys!

Monna-Giovanna Thanks! I think the first stuff is better too. It came out of school...lots more time to explore and grow there, but I keep trying to get more time for that even though I'm out of school now.

Alesoun Thanks again. I'll have to think about doing that. Maybe I'll have to give that guy a little more character, and a setting.

Zacharybear Thanks a ton...I'll see what I can do!

Best wishes everyone...I promise to check out everyone's SB's as soon as I can.

Just got back from OPUS fest. It was my first local show. Went pretty well. Had a really good critique from a great artist. Did this sketch while I had some down time at the show. I don't like the lips, but I think the eyes are nice. Needs more contrast too.

Nice sb! Your life-drawings are particularly good, and I like your "random people" sketches as well. Your from-imagination stuff isn't quite up to the same standard, but if you keep studying, you'll get there. You've got a lot of potential.

Thanks! I agree about my imaginative work not equaling other studies. So, lots of work to do in that area.

    Cheers,

Another doodle I did last week while I was bored. No idea what this guy is, or the thing on his head, but I tried to make it a little moodier than I usual do.

    Allosaurus

Long time, no post. One death in the family...started a new job the week after. Phew, I'm pooped. At least I have a steady paycheck now.

Did this sketch about two months ago for one of my freelance clients. It was one of my logo ideas for them. This is the sketch I used for the illustrator rendering. Then it will get stuck in with their logotype.

Nothing great and wonderful. I guess it is just proof I actually do draw from time to time.

I really like your life drawings studies, and the start drawing of your futur painting.

About imaginative drawing, i get the same problem than you,
I started to draw on random subject each week in order to increase my skill on this point, you've crit the first of it, i think it's a good way to work

    TransHuman

A sketch for a painting I'll be working on soon. Someone commented this chick would be the perfect date, because of the power button on her neck. This drawing is actually a further development of the doodle I did in post #13.

Maybe I should post this stuff in the WIP forum?

Any crits are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Anatomy Studies

A montage I did about 6 months ago. When I drew this, I was trying not focus on anything but the drawing...if that makes sense. In other words, I didn't worry about timing myself or whether or not it would be critiqued. Just trying to reclaim a little of the joy in drawing. The source material came from a sports catalog I got in the mail.
