what do you think of this idea, done by computer artist lillian schwartz.. that the mona lisa is a self portrait?

anyways, here's the deal. this is a huge shocker for people who don't draw. but when you draw as much as our boy leo, you tend to be alone often. he'd draw himself alot and his face would be the most familiar thing he drew and so you tend to draw yourself in alot of your work, even unintentionally. it's in your mind as you draw. he held on to this thing for a while and would work on it even when the model wasn't posing so ofcourse he'd had to do some from memory and wham. 500 years later some guy who's never drawn thinks he's outted leonardo.

did you see the nytimes article that sargents madame x was really a guy from sargents past? much more interesting if you ask me!

1. Human facial proportions are remarkably consistant. It's really not that hard to get faces shot or drawn from the same angle to line up pretty closely.
2. That being said, the "Mona Leo" isn't really that good a match. Notice how the features on the right are all substantially bigger than those on the left. The cropping disguises this somewhat because we can't see the full size of the head in the drawing.
3. There's quite a bit of doubt about whether the "self portrait" drawing actually is one. It only began to be thought of as one long after Leonardo's death, and actually portrays a man much older than Da Vinci would have been when he is said to have drawn it.

Perhaps it's a portrait of his mother? There seems to be a bit of a family resemblance around the nose and eye bag area.

I missed the image. What was it?

And, I could swear that I saw something on the History channel that they found some evidence of who the model was for the Mona Lisa. I won't be able to remember the name, but she was a friend's wife I think (or possibly a girlfriend? I don't know much history on him), and she was also a painter herself. It was a while ago that I saw this show, but I remember it being quite interesting. Anyone know of this?
