    ChOW#295 :: Fantasy Masquerade

    Character of the Week #295
    Fantasy Masquerade

Design a guest at a fantasy masquerade!!

DEADLINE: SUNDAY 15th July 8PM GMT+1 (9PM British Summer Time)
    Check your timezone!

We're going to start the countdown to the new monarch of ChOW by hosting a little party..... a masquerade party..... for fantasy characters.

So the rules for this round are pretty simple, it must be a standard fantasy being (elf, gnome, dwarf, orc, goblin, fairy etc) and it must be wearing a masquerade costume.

The party is being held in honour of the new monarch, so it's a pretty grand affair and the costume should reflect that!

    The Guidelines:
    • Can be male or female
    • Must be a fantasy being
    • Must wear a masquerade costume
    • The party is for a king or queen and should reflect that
    • Can be any style

    THE RULES
In addition to the brief, if you do not follow these rules, you will not be included in the poll.
    • Files must be named: CHoW#295_Username
(Files with any other names such as final.jpg or even chow295final.jpg will not be accepted)
    • Finals must be posted in the finals thread BEFORE the deadline
    • Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
    • At least 3/4 of the focus character must be visible
    • Final images must be accompanied with a basic character sheet in a separate image
Character sheets should at the very least show a sketch of the front and back of the character and a couple of early thumbnails/silhouettes.
    • Follow the brief!

Started in on the pose and colors. Not my typical palette, but I'm liking the combination. No clear idea of the background or if/what I'll do for it.

Aaaaaaa I'm going to make meself join in.

Going to scribble round till I get a good idea. Things I'm coming up with are feeling a little disjointed and cluttered at the moment.

Good luck, everyone. (Mind you, I'll need it more x_x)

@Pixeltuner : I like the tree mask. Not sure what I think of the torch(?) I suppose because right now it looks like a flashlight.

@Niady I'm sure you'll do fine. I like that leaf mask concept, though I think that first sketch looks more like an entertainer than a guest.

And here's my update. The mask is still a work in progress. I just don't know where I'm going with it.I'm pretty sure the perspective on the right hand wings is wrong. Reference hunt time. Or maybe it doesn't need wings? I'm not sure...

haha well on the plus side, its an easy fix. I was able to to lasso around it (just to make sure I wasn't crazy about its size) and seamlessly place it back on her neck after resizing it

Hemlock: Cheers for the heads up, mate. I'm hoping this looks a little more refined now ahaha. Not many crits I can offer back, but perhaps have a few sketch arounds on how those wings actually fit to the girl. They almost feel stuck on the back on an angle to me. Keep them if you can though, I think they look adorable.

I'll be looking to add base colours when I can fix up the legs, I think.

Very nice line drawing and charter the glas in his hand puts him in the mascerade party. Looking forvard to se him in colours.

    Parsakoira
    Beautiful face and colours.

    hemlock-key
I like the mode in the drawing. I think you shuld move and rotate her wings a bit. If the angle of them is paralell to her shoulders and the midpoint at her backbone I think the will connect better. Perhaps exstend the canavas to be less limited., and crop it later. I think her headwear is nice but at this point it ends where the wings ends. This makes it harder to read.

    Pixelturner
You are so fast. Nice tree mask.

The goblins got wind of a masquerade party held in honor of the king of the elves. Perfect cover for an assassination.

Fancy my hand at drawing a full masquerade costume which covers the entire body, inspired by the Venice Carnival. Not sure how much of this I'll be able to get done.

Niady: Thanks, I'll try a few things. I like where that's going now. I'd like to see legs.

Pixeltuner : Ahh. Okay. That'll be cool!

JanJager : Thanks, I think you're right. I fiddled a bit and I think I've got the issue resolved. Extended the canvas and rotated the wings around to a more natural angle. Your crazy dwarf? on stilts is nifty. Definitely not the first thing I think of when I think of dwarves, that's for sure.

Agent Melon : I love that concept. It's so quirky.

Still working. I want to tighten up the headdress and wings (obviously) and figure out where I'm going with the mask.

    Oodles of refs

For those of you unfamiliar with the Labyrinth of Jareth ball here in Cali.... this is the first thing that came to mind. Some outright gorgeous designs. Be beware copywrights and all that when linking images.
