Digital Sculpting for Concept Artists and TAD

Hey guys, I'm starting to consider formal education for my art endeavours and I'm torn between a couple of art programs here at home and some online courses.

I mainly want to be a concept artist for games and entertainment. Recently there has been a growing thing (at least from what I've heard and read) where concept artists are more and more asked to come up with sculpted models along with their concepts for production (neville page comes right up to mind) and I am definitely interesting in combining the 2d aspect of concept art with the 3d sculpting element.

However, looking at the TAD course listing for the full time programme, one can either pick a more 2d oriented program or a full 3d program. You can also pick electives but at this point all I could see in that area was 3dI (which is more along the lines of conventional 3d package modeling from what I could tell).

Are there courses that you can take within the illustration or 2d program that cover digital sculpting? And if not, are there any plans to include it maybe as an elective?

Or maybe i'm missing something and one of those programs is exactly that in which case I apologise and will go retire in shame for my failed spot check

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Karnart,
there is the 3D 1 elective in Foundations B, which explains 3D fundamentals using 3ds Max and Maya.
ZBrush, Keyshot and more Max & Maya are talked about in Entertainment 2D courses throughout semesters. The focus is on design and 2D foundations though, so if you want to strengthen your 3D skills the elective might be a good idea, as well as free tutorials online or videos from Digital Tutors or others specializing in training specific packages and pipelines.
    So much to learn
ZBrush is becoming more and more of a standard and it's a very flexible concepting tool probably worth learning about.

Feel free to email [email protected] with questions!
