    CHoW#288 :: Bounty hunter

    Character of the Week #288
    Bounty hunter

Design the most dangerous bounty hunter in the galaxy!

DEADLINE: SUNDAY 20th MAY 8PM GMT+1 (9PM British Summer Time)
    Check your timezone!

Its a constant fight between all the bounty hunters and mercenaries in the galaxy, everyone aspires to be the number one, no matter what. They are well contacted with all the crime lords and syndicates across the galaxy, but the jobs are only for the best, and the most expensive of them. They are highly trained and skilled to track down and kill/capture their target in the vast galaxy. A constant race of gear and tech among bounty hunters generates a huge market for weapon industry, and money flows, but only for the best.

    The Guidelines:
    • Can be any gender
    • Can be any race
    • Can be only sci-fi
    • Keep in mind the gear and weaponry of the bounty hunter, what kind of weapons would be best for them?
    • We dont want to see any bikinis or anything like that. Pay attention to his armor design, he has to be able to perform in harsh conditions
    • Optional: you may also design the space ship the bounty hunter uses

    THE RULES
In addition to the brief, if you do not follow these rules, you will not be included in the poll.
    • Files must be named: CHoW#288_Username
(Files with any other names such as final.jpg or even chow287final.jpg will not be accepted)
    • Finals must be posted in the finals thread BEFORE the deadline
    • Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
    • At least 3/4 of the focus character must be visible
    • Final images must be accompanied with a basic character sheet in a separate image
Character sheets should at the very least show a sketch of the front and back of the character and a couple of early thumbnails/silhouettes.
    • Follow the brief!

took the MASSIVE GUN option instead of giving my dude lots of armour n gear. thought he could use a parrot sidekick to carry his lunch but it's outside of the brief so i might lose it. lots of ways to interpret this so cant wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Don't really have time for chow this week, but i thought a bit of sci-fi might be a little relaxing to the rest of my other work, lol. Anyway, gone for the insect/human hybrid approach, i figure with her human aggression added to her insect qualities, plus being the female of her species, then she would be naturally tough. weapon wise i'm a little unsure at moment, with her insect strength and speed, both big and bulky or small but fast weaponry would probably work for her.

Some feedback if you people don't mind. As always, just my opinion, don´t take my worf for it, except maybe what i say to Animare wich is very objective stuff as far as i know, and i came to believe that everyone would tell you the same.

@ Rob, i like the last of the firt row, and the middle from the second, they are showing the kind of attitude that i imagine these hunters might have.
@Jon, that sketch has a ton of energy and the size and shape of the gun is cool and original, maybe too close (also in shape ans size to the torso) to those of the character...not a big deal anyway. Not sure about showing the back of the character as the main view (except J-Lo maybe, hehe).
@Animare, nice bounty hunter attitude, i think is looking very saturated though, try to tone the color down a little and define with value change the forms, pick a light source and stick with it, and after you have defined the lights and shadows and the middle zones, start to bounce the light from the more reflecting and high in value (whitest) surfaces.
@8smoku8, very, very nice ideas but the ones of the first row have toy proportions wich don't work for a Sci-fi character. Try to make them at least 7 feet tall if they are human/humanoid or they will have either a toy or a dwarf look.

Ok I think I've chosen the design I want to carry on with.

The Flesh Hunter is one of the most feared bounty hunters in the galaxy, not because he's particularly good at his job, but because he is known for eating the flesh of his bounties, saving only the head for the reward. Higher value targets have been known to be taken alive by this malicious hunter, but those are few and far between. So if you find yourself on his list, you better make a bigger name for yourself if you want to live.

@Parsakoira:Great design, and very energetic loose line work. I sorta picture a different background color just based on the design though.

@Rob Powell: Cool silluettes, #2 stands out for me. Could be some flying thing with insectoid eye gear I guess. Definitely the most unique one in the bunch.

@john n:Absolutely fantastic, love the bird.

@grenogs:I like the feel of both designs, would love to see how you take it further.

And Cameli, please do some thing. You're a great inspiration.

Well, here's a pencil sketch. Name's Pat, she's a woman in her 30s. Been roaming the deserts with a bandit group ever since she was young. But now, she's alone, and very dangerous.

I think I'm going to do a crazy chunky old guy who looks inconspicuous in his rags, but is concealing state of the art armor and weaponry underneath. Still haven't settled on a design or composition, just doodlin'... maybe will try a scene where he's the only one standing with armed guards defeated around him... though I want to see more of his face

I got a bit distracted following a space background tutorial in ImagineFX but it's helped me figure out a light source and establish the values better.
