Exclamation Look too much like photo

I did this in photoshop CS, Used my own referance, but it 's too much like a photograph. I know it was because of how i did it but what can i do to make it look less like a photo and more like a fine art painting?

Although I have done some paintovers myself, supplied with the proper brushes, I keep in mind to pull away from the photo and more towards creating.

Some suggestions and tips. The tones alone give it off, you should tweak with that a bit and go for something more interesting. Also, it appears as if you created this on a snigle layer, not a good idea. Create numerous layers for different, specific things. I create one layer for the base of the photo, then make another to get a bit more detailed, and other additional layers to zero in on something specific such as hands or faces. Plus it comes off appearing very flat, add texture to it to avoid that. Don't feel the need to include EVERYTHING in the picture, you could of slowly faded off some sections of the pictures with the strokes cutting it out.

Look for some basic objects on a image search engine, with wallpaper resolution, and practice on those first before jumping straight into photos.

I did not use any filters. Just brushes and a wacom. But I know what you mean. I'm trying to solve this problem of painting over a photo and not make it look like that. Well I'll Keep trying.

ah, i see big improvments. But take these into considerations if I may....

    - Exagerate some of the parts in the photo, thats what is going to make it look more like a painting. By that I don't mean adding a third arm or second head, but more like the lighting on the violin. It's looking ho-hum and too much like a photo, go in there and add some white highlights, give it some gloss.

    - The face is tons better, really nice job, work more on the hair though, it looks as if it's blending in too much. In other words, it looks blurry, take a look around the traditional artists methods of creating hair and you'll get what i am going at.

    - Clothing needs sharper folds and deeper shadows on some parts...still comes off appearing too flat.

Good improvements though, just needs some further tweaking, you are on the right path.
