    david skeletons sketchbook

I may as well introduce myself to the community with a sketchbook..

These are from yesterday from original loose sketch to my last stage where I finally cut his hand off after several failed attempts at just not being able to get it right. I will come back to this as I plan on inking it eventually. I agree with any crits about his closer arm muscle structure being a little lost in the last stages of pencil rendering.. but I am jumping right in with recent works. Nothing as frustrating as 'oh I did these years ago..'

Hope you enjoy.. and I will be posting more soon.

You've got a very confident and energetic approach. Looking forward to seeing more...I guess all I can say at this point is battle through it and get the hands in there to refine the composition and design of the character.
    Lot of promise here!
    Keep it going

I have been practicing with my colors. My coloring is horrible and I need LOTS of work.. I started focusing last night again since it has been awhile since I really have messed around or experimented with coloring.

I was just sketching around and started playing around with ink experiments and warmups.. then decided to drop this beast of a Frankenstein into photoshop to see what I could do.

I am really only sharing it here so that one day we can all look back and say 'wow maybe all that practice helped out a bit..' I will keep practicing and sharing.. let's start here!

You have a bold penciling style that I like. I would suggest varying the values a little more to bring your image into focus. Right now it seems like the whole images recieves the same tonal treatment, but if you soften/fade the elements that are secondary and sharpen/darken the primary point of interest it would really help increase to readability of your work.

    Thank you guys very much.

And you are probably right Shorinji_Knight I usually just draw with a mechanical pencil. I will start playing with some varying pencils. Thanks for the tips I am not trained so anything I can pick up is helpful.

Your penciling style is great - Sharp and interesting whilst still maintaining flow and creates lots of visual interest. Bit of Rob Liefield showing in your anatomy thought

Why does that remind me of Mysterio from Spiderman?
Anyway, I love the pencil work in your drawings.
    Keep up the good work.

Ha! Ramo I thought the same thing when I originally drew the head, until I added the squidlike face on it, but then when that cape came over the shoulder I thought, 'This is how I draw Mysterio!'

    And thanks, I will try!

I have been studying coloring and digital work recently, and finally figured out masking layers in photoshop. I dropped a sketch in and played around with masking layers and different textures which I also don't really know too much about, but I am trying to figure out.

Here is what I have been working on today.. more to come soon as I figure out how to really put all of this stuff together.

Thanks blazingdimensions, I will swing by soon and check your sketchbook out!

..I appreciate the kind words but I will say that I need tons of practice with my anatomy.. especially lately. Since I have done so much comic book styled work my anatomy has greatly suffered, my advice would be find one of these fellow artists sketchbooks that has tons of anatomy studies in them, I am sure they could give you a far better eye and advice than I possibly could!

So I will post what I have been working on today.. I woke up thinking about dinosaurs and beasts that ride on them. And aliens. I have not incorporated the aliens at this point but two out of three ain't bad!

    just some pencil progress..

My wife and I packed up all week, and moved this weekend. Haven't done any drawing, so now that I am in my new studio, I needed to sit down and do some sketching, and just started dropping ink on it to get back into the rhythm of it, especially since I have been doing so many pencils and digital work lately.

    progress..
