Here is the first drawing I did of a real person I did a couple weeks ago. Went a bit 2 light on the shading though.
A value practice. from 3rd month in AIS
A pencil from one of the best anime movies I ever seen. If u like anime I recommend seeing the Evangelion movies and the series but the movies are just phenomenal
Ahhhh she aint' GOT NO NIPPLES!!!!! a 30 or 40 min can't exactly remember of a live model. Sorry all these pictures are taken from a phone. hoping 2 start using a scanner soon
get ready for noob inking pics coming up the next couple of weeks. Gonna be a mess I bet.I know these pics are so monotone but I'll be getting into more mediums soon hopefully. It's a slow progress
A sketch of a car done in the the 4th month of practice I believe. I'm keeping tabs on the times so I can see my progress. Didn't finish shading though. Sorry I can be a bit (of a b!^$%) afraid when it comes to shading. Need someone to boost my ego. Kudos to artist who aren't very great but committ all the way through. Don't obssess over perfection it's halting.
Hey Ellis, good start to the sketchbook
Its hard to judge some things due to the lack of scanned images, but I would advise that you do some quick figure studies every day to build up some proportion knowledge The figures are good bases, but they are oddly shaped, try using http://lovecastle.org/draw/ to get some nice gestural drawings down, quick and easy improvement!
Good luck with the future updates.
A skelenton I did for a figure drawing class. Even though I can draw fairly well I have doubt and confidence that comes and goes. If anyone has ANY good references for drawing what you see and nailing down proportions and stuff of the sort I would greatly appreciate it.
Got half as much done as I was planning on doing 2day. When I get hungry I use that as an excuse not to do anything because I don't have the energy. But in actuality that's just me being a lazy azz.
This is the first inking I've done since I started. The car is a bit off but F$*% it. If any of you have any tips for drawing smalled detail things like hands from observation leave a reply on how you go about it.
Old abe
This is pretty much for a composition but I chose 2 do abe's face because of it's unique features. You can tell this guy had to put up with alot of shit. I still suck though.
Okay..
1) STOP ending each post with "I still suck".. That's the mind set that's going to stop you from practicing. Besides this stuff isn't bad - you just have the same issues other folks in your skill level have - You need to study anatomy more, clean up your technique, and possibly get more proficient with a pencil before you branch off to something like pen and ink - which is permanent - one mistake and your epic work could go bye-bye! (unless you're skilled enough to find a way to fix the mistake).
2) More anatomy sketches
3) Value charts, value lines, and quick value sketches of REAL LIFE objects. Apples, bananas, cell phones, paper towel rolls, a picture frame, a coffee can, etc..
4) KEEP the pencil SHARPENED!! Smooth values come out when your pencil is sharpened! Grain occurs when you're using a soft pencil and it's point is about as blunt as a Q-Tip. It can also occur if you start off with a soft pencil (Anything really from 3B to Ebony) and try to go straight into values from a quick line art. No sharpening of pencil = bad thing!
5) If you're going to make a border, use a ruler. Believe me..
Hope any of this helps!

George Bridgman

Andrew Loomis
This is an earlier drawing and by earlier I mean a few months so maybe I should say recent but I've improved a bunch since then so I'm gonna with earlier
Most of this stuff is unfinished. Why do I hardly ever finish a piece? IDK. I really need to start though. What tricks do most of you folks do when working with something very detailed?
Gonna make this my last post 4 2day. Either I'm not working as hard as I use 2 or drawing is just getting easier. Gonna try to draw something really complex this weekend to test myself. Like a Transformer or something
Everything I've done so far is observation but i'm gonna start cartooning lessons maybe nxt week. Any tips?

believe it or not I like the Godzilla thing the most so far. It has attitude, and a nice sketchy look to it.

you have some pretty good starting work so far!
You asked a bit ago about how to draw small details like hands and things-- the best advice I can give is to do a lot of hand studies in a large size, and then eventually drawing them small will come much more naturally
Finally after about 6 months in AIS I reached the lessons on cartooning. YIPEE!!!Gonna get on some Andrew Loomis and try to get a good understanding of body anatomy and what not so I can do some decent cartooning bc AIS doesn't go much into detail just the fundamentals. Me taking a 1st shot at cartooning is featured in this pic I was suprised it turned out OK.
Sure some of you can guess who I've been trying to learn from by seeing how my characters are rendered. But it's Andrew Loomis for those of you who don't want to be left pondering. He has great stuff on learning to draws faces and anatomy. I can finally click "from imagination". Sorry 4 the light pencil work
I won't be posting much in the nxt wk or 2 bc i'm still getting a grip on cartooning and perspective. Any1 have any great links on learn 1-3 point perspective? I'm gonna force myself to do at least 1 observational sketch
2mmrw I spent all day trying 2 cartoon. This seahorse is from observation and like a month old.
hey its all looking really good! one thing I would suggest though is more contrast in your drawings. make the shadows darker so that it stands out more
It's an unfinished observational pic but it's l8 and i'm gonna go ahead and share it. I mainly created this 2 practice value which I haven't done in a bit. I'm starting off using simple bots before I try to take on a Transformer. It's hard as AF drawing complex mecha stuff from observation.
This is my go at using chalk or conte whatever the folks call it. I have to say it's probably not my favorite medium but not as bad as i thought it would be. Oh and it's not finished I wasn't to pleased with the face though should of taken more time.
That cool cartoon your parents probably won't approve of so you watch it in secret. I started this for a friend and did not finish it. Shame on me. Why are my pictures coming out so big??? IDK i'm not very tech savy
YEah Son! made it to page 2. It's like leveling up in a video game. Get on my level!! I expect to get to at least 20 pages by the end of this yr.
This is my 6 month mark of being in AIS and shading is so slow for me. After I draw something I'm just gonna set it aside use for like 30 min value practice everyday it's holding me back. I'm like value challenged. (Minimize the page) Sorry for the XXL pics
Short on time today so I still didn't get to do a legit observational drawing. These are like 5-10 minute gestures time ranging larger from left to right
