err I 'm not sure this the most appropriate place to post questions about graphics cards, and I'm not sure if you're looking for something for 2d digital art work or 3d, so try asking at www.cgchannel.com or www.highend3d.com forums. they have specific forums that cover this stuff.

Mid range? NVidia GeForce FX. High end? NVidia Quadro.. Whatever you do, don't go ATI. You'll only run into one problem after the next with Max, Maya, etc. The support forums are always full with the poor fool that went with ATI for high end 3d.

There are other cards of course, the cards i mentioned are game friendly as well. =)

I haven't had any problems with my 9700 Pro.

The 9700 pro is a newer card so I wouldn't expect any either, but if history repeats then the next versions of max and maya won't like the radeon. It IS a good card, just not for high end 3d.
