An easel

I was hoping you guys would pardon another question from me, seeing as I've been asking a lot lately.

In hindsight it is pretty obvious, but this has only become apparent to me now that I'm drawing on larger paper. I draw on a flat table and because of the distortion all my figures take on a triangular shape where they get smaller the further they go away from me on the paper.

I was thinking about getting a tabletop easel to have the paper at a more vertical angle to eliminate the distortion, but I'm not sure if this would be a suitable solution for my problem.

Would I be wasting my time and money on one? I'd be intending to use it just for the drawing stage, but I like to produce as tight a drawing as I can before painting with rulers and geometrical templates if needs be.

My one experience with a studio easel several years ago was unpleasant as it caused me pain in the back and shoulder and I found it very hard to draw accurately.

Have you thought about getting a tiltable drawing table for drawing instead of an easel ?
I use an old drawing table like this that allows me to tilt the surface up to an almost vertical angle and I love it.

I know the ones you mean, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find somewhere that sells them or lists the prices in the UK. I expect they'd likely be out of my budget in any case, so I'm thinking an easel might be the next best thing.

You could buy a £5 wooden board from there and fashion a system to make it upright, or attatch it to an easel. You could also splash out on some of the more expensive solutions.

Argos used to sell lightweight tabletop easels that were pretty good a lot of their products seem to be gone now unfortunatly.

Have you tried getting a wooden drawing board and perhaps leaning it againt the table?
