Update 2012
I just had my sketchbook threads merged into one (thank you Star eater)
Recently I got a bulk of 90 sketchbooks on ebay and have challenged myself to fill them all up, hopefully getting down a speed of one per week.

Right on. Got some good stuff in here. So, since you are young and just getting ready to hit the pavement hard I would suggest you start with some anatomy studies. Got any anatomy books? Draw the illustrations. Learn how the human bone structure is put together and then the muscles. It pays off.
Welcome to CA.
Visible improvements here, Neon. I agree with Van, anatomy and proportion are the most important things to learn first. There are some great things online by Andrew Loomis, www.saveloomis.org, and plenty of great stuff here and at The Society of Figurative Arts, www.tsofa.com, both are well worth checking out. You're off to a good start, I'll check back in a couple days and see how you're doing. Welcome to CA and best wishes.

Oooh, its great to see earlier stuff. Since you have been drawing like that since you were 13, you must have a built up library of cool stuff/charectors, keep drawing and set it free! That was cheesier than the seriously strong chedder cheese toast next to me.
But seriously your inspire me to give more commitment to my drawings, and draw the cool stuff I like.
make sure to make guide lines before you start to draw/paint, i can see in your girlfriends portrei that your lines are off, make some facial or anatomical studies if htat is what you want, in a year or two you'll look back and be happy of the progress you've made, i know, i'm laughing now at my old stuff
great pics, and the key to progress is to think of what you do and how to improve it, and most of all, draw every day. EVERYDAY !!!
cheers ! and welcome to the boards !

THE OTHER BROTHERS
Hey guys.
Van: Thanks! ya i have one book, i did download 5 loomis books, but i had to reformat this f-ing comp because its a bastard. i hate doing anatomy studies, but i guess it has to be done..woo.
IanE: Thanks dude. Read above haha.
Harry: Yo man, I dunno how many drawings i got, prob not as many as ya might think. I inspire you? wow thats rich haha, never thought i'd hear that from no one.
Hurricane:Omg. Thee hurricane just left a comment...whoo hoo! Thanks man, you really inspire me. awesome stuff you got.
Yea i'm starting to use guildlines. hated them, but they useful, and my girlfriends face isn't as off as it seems, just that damn scanner, but a little i guess. Man old stuff really disinspires me for some reason, and i start drawing really crap...not good.
I draw nearly everyday... i think i give up to easy... oops.
I won't be updating for a few days, cause i've had alot of trouble with windows, damnit, gunna get linux soon hopefully tho its harder to use, i'll try anything to get away from windows.
Does anyone use linux btw?
Thanks all![]()

hey doood. Good start on the anatomy studies. The main thing that jumped out at me is proportion. Gotta watch that.
Also, just a suggestion, you might want to post a tad smaller. I've got a fairly high screen resolution, but I was scrolling to the right.
Looking forward to seeing more.
Cheers,
~Shane

HIRE. ME. i draw stuff.
FOLLOW ME. i blog stuff.
Nice update man, the necks came out quite nice. The head on the first page, bottom right, the dude needs more head in the back. He's missing like a third of his head.
The skulls need some work in the mouth area, and last, justwork on the fingers and toes.
Like I said, nice update.
ah, way cool man.. i don't really have any crits but to put the whole part on the page. like, when you do a neck, try to include the head also. just keep studying that anatomy... it will come with time.
keep it up
You should join the Lite group.. heh
Hey, got a lot of cool sketches here. Great work on the the dragon head. Keep posting. I would like to see more from your creative mind. Later

Whats up
Ok you did asked for full hard critics to here they come,Originally Posted by Soul:Child

I belive you have in you all to become a great artist.
First than anyting take my advise with a
pinch of salt, Im just learing like you
Its not bad for a first try, I think that right now
you are coping shapes but not quite understaing what
happens below the skin, let go of the pretty rendering and
use only lines and shapes to convey a sence of volumen,
the skull shapes on the first post is way off, the head in the lower
right fells detached from the body, the calvicle bones are in the
wrong place, the head in the middle of the page looking upwards
has lots of problems on the neck area, the central mass of the neck
should be like an inverted triagle, not a straight bumpy line.
The skulls on the second page are very flat, and the cervical column
of the neck looks too wonky, try placing your anatomical parts
on prespective, imagine the skull as a sphere and the mouth feature
as another sphere protuding out just below the first sphere,
the arms and legs on the second and third pages are the best
in terms of dept, even tho they still have lots of construccion
errors here and there.
Studing Is more about understanding and involving the brain
in the drawing process, IMO it should be as much brains as
drawing, so that when you have done lost of them it becomes
intuitive and then leave the brain part working for you on the back
of your head, studing can be pretty hard, and some time very VERY
frustraing but is the only way to get better, so there ya go,
keep on doing this but think of the reasons of why this or that
shape looks the way it looks before placing any line.
Well that is all for now, I expect to see more studies
from you in the near future, keep it UP, and have fun,
bw keep on doing the imagination stuff aside the antomy or
you will get saturated, belive me, I did that for some time
and it can be frustraiting, doing imagination things
can be a good release for a tired mind after a
study session
P. S. you prolly have heard of Kchens studies,
and of mentlers studies too, I sugesst using them as
base to understand how the main shapes of the body work:
Kchen:

mentler:

hey what's up, apparently I'm now in SSG2, so just thought I'd post this introduction in all of the member's sketchbooks.
It's really late right now, but I'll definitely try to go through your sketchbook thoroughly and offer some crits tomorrow morning. My main crit now is to fuckin UPDATE.
Okay, no posts in WAY too long. I demand you draw! Actually, I am really just asking. PLEASE! It is good for the soul and some people even are good enough at it that they make money. But you will never get that far if you DON'T DRAW! So, for the sake of the cheese, DRAW! Now that I am done embarrasing myself, adeu.

>< a good deed....
ive seen you lurking around here. why are you not drawing.. I shall not do a good deed..for you till you draw something.
Please
Some of those envirosketches are sweet! The still life is looking solid as well..
Like oregano said before here... work a bit on your anatomy, and you'll leap ahead even more... where are my PK-studies??
d-C
D-Cept: meh, could be better..and they will! just looked at pencilators SB, damn thats inspiring, and only 19 too, i need to be that good before i'm 19..
I'll get round to your studies.. sheeesh dude! lol thanks
great stuff man. i love the one of the armchair. good values there. my advice? maybe slow down and be a little more calculating with your hatching. remember, the flow of a line will denote form, so work out what form the image needs before going gun-ho and giving it what-for, you get me? hah. you should post the results of your field-day (get it..? field-day... as in you painted a field? yes? maybe? no? ok!)
Stoph you smeg! lol
Thanks for the crit, i do like the result on the chairs, suprisingly, and btw, heres the dissapointing part, the result of my 'field day' you cheesy bastard, is already up there lol.![]()
Sup MC
really nice looking stuff in here - like the general direction in which you drawing is going, great feeling for form in some of of these! Try to be a bit more aggressive with the markers, and don't afraid to go darker!

thanks man, i'll do some darker marker sketches.
Update now, lots of Hyung tae kim studies, characters copyrighted by Hyung tae kim. props to him, great artist.
and a few robots and enviros.
Hey bud!
Wow lots of workbut , yeah try to get rid of the anime/american comic style thingy, i dont like big eyes haha, but yeah thats a personal thing of my own, so dont give adamn bout me if you still wanna develope a style based on a great anime artist! Page 5 and the very last one is awsome! keep those up, and do some "proper" face studies
Keep it up!
~Dile
Dilesigh... you just can't be happy for me hu... wat a bitch.. lol
i can't help it, i have to say, shamefully, i love anime! but i love concept design, no harm in trying out different styles.. might come out as an awesome superstyle... maybe..
Hey, welcome to our sketchgroup Madcat!! My opinion would be that your style is fine but try not to get caught up in a style at this moment in time just learn as much as you can your style whether its an anime type style will eventually shine through your hard work and determination. Good start here i would work on strucutre but you have alot of good stuff here. And you could not have been more correct me getting more hardcore rendering in my sketchbook. I'm glad to have you apart of your sketchbook.![]()
ashrumm thanks for the welcome.
yeah your right about the style. should just study my ass off instead and let it come to me.
glad i was right about somethingthanks
