    Nosferatu Fury

So this piece is actually farther along than this screenshot would imply (in terms of color, background, etc), but before I got too far along with it I wanted you fellas and gals to have a look at it. The hand is what has been giving me the most trouble, but after a few studies, etc, I am feeling a big more pleased with it. Please feel free to tear this up.

So this is Alucard from Hellsing, being wrathful and whatnot.

So I did some more references to the original source material, mainly the OVAs, and came up with a few extra effects. As was mentioned by MiniGoth about the feet I hadn't really intended to leave them cut off like that, I was just sort of leaving them there as a place holder while I did this next part.

I am concerned that it might have gotten a bit too hard to read though with all the arms and hands and such, especially since I kept changing the contours of the coat, but anyway, I can clean that up. Still rendering the coat and other features.

Anyway, please tear it up, thanks!

Overall I like it. Some things to look at:

Your perspective is off. As the far arm recedes into the background, it should foreshorten, not forelongen Also the fingers on many of the spirit hands look awkward and flat, because you expressly separate each finger. Don't be afraid to let the viewer see realistic silhouettes in which the fingers overlap, and realize what's going on for themselves. The mind will read realistic better since that's what it's used to. Reference your hand, or a friend's, for the pose of each one.

Now, I've never seen Hellsing, but I'm guessing his coat is supposed to be tattered here. It looks like it's melting at the edges. Whittle those droplets to points and show us what you mean.

To the right of Alucard's foremost hand is some kind of cylinder in his coat that reads as a cannon barrel. If it's supposed to be part of a large ripple, I imagine you could remove the right half of the circle at the end to fix the confusion.

His bottom row of teeth don't quite match up with his jawline. Teeth sprout from the jawbone, and end up more inside the jawline than outside.

After some inspection it's obvious that the eyes in the background are copy-paste. While it's not necessarily bad form to copy-paste something, you're not hiding it very well. Change them up, or better yet, redraw them so each is its own form. Are the eyes portrayed as perfectly identical in the show? That's the only reason I could see to leave them as they are.

Maybe have some more reddish lighting on his skin, assuming these things are giving off glow. I doubt it's represented in the OVA, but even Miyazaki leaves out colored lighting on his foreground characters most of the time, and it seems to be tradition in anime. That's alright since they're focusing on making things move, however, since this is a still picture you shouldn't ignore it. I can't really say how you should put it in because there are light sources everywhere, but at least start with a tint, and especially light up his face as he has flames shooting from his eyes.

So I attribute a lot of the problems this piece was having from the fact that I sort of went off the straight and narrow with that whole googly-arms thing. So I decided to go about things with a little more sanity. I made them less glowy, also cut off some of the arms to make the piece a little more readable and to not obscure his form too much. As for the problem with the hands, I added a few more hands that weren't just immediately recognizable as 5 fingers, but I will probably add more still. Admittedly, I was using the anime source material as reference for that part, and that's how they were drawn, so I think I just followed it without thinking.

As for the arm, I brought it in, shortened it, and made the hand a little smaller, so hopefully the feel of depth is good now. Let me know if this still needs sorting out. Same with the fangs, I brought them in a bit and more defined the lip portion of the mouth, so hopefully those are good too.

As for the cast light, that's my next job. I am not really strictly following the art style from the anime, and I love cast light. That will be next!

As for the eyes, I will probably go back and make changes to their sizes, add some different red veins, as well as brush stroke changes, eventually. Its not my top priority right now though.

So here it is! Keep em coming!

I'm no expert on composition but it feels much better without that snarl of arms coming up the right side. It's certainly a relief to be able to see his legs, though now it does look like you're avoiding drawing the feet, even if you're not.

I've noticed that there are straight, dark streaks across his coat, that don't look like they belong at all. And you seem to have missed some color on his far arm.

I'm not sure why I didn't ask this before; Could you post a reference screenshot or two of the scene, so we know exactly where you're coming from?
