Been in a rut, so decided to work on some anatomy, since mine is pretty lacking. Loomis seems like a popular choice, so I started reading through one of his books. Also need practice with the tablet, so did these in Photoshop.

After that, failed self portrait, quick sketch, unfinished sketch, and a near finished thing and a just started thing.

and loomis is one of the best indeed, i've heard that a lot too, and i'll be doing a few sketches from it myself soon!

Aww. Nice ones. Really awesome lines you have there. I like your pencil works, but also the last lady is also quite nice looking. And the tree... just love that style in the branches and shadows.

Hmm... the lady that cleans those legs... I think that her hands may be different sizes, like her upper arm would be way bigger than the other. Also the toes of the man look perhaps bit bulky, so you could perhaps try to draw more legs in general. I mean, that even the next image is cut just above his legs without any apparent reason.

Anyways, wonderful start. Keep posting, I want to see, where you're going.

Yes, legs are probably the most frustrating part of human anatomy for me to draw, I need to spend more time focusing on those. Thanks to everyone for the feedback!

Time for an update (I apologize for the mega-post and some of the big files...), I'll start off with something a little different, my 3D models from last semester. I don't plan on going real heavy into 3D work, but I've found it is very helpful to have a basic understanding. These are all done in Maya. The Phone, Headset and Car are not my designs, but the jet and frog are. You can tell how much of a beginner I am by how much I over-indulged in some effects.

Dumb question ahead: Alright, so I'm 20, and based on what you've seen so far, do you think I'm behind most concept artists for my age? I kinda feel like I am, but I wondered what others thought. I'm going to work hard to get better either way, but if I'm behind the average for my age then I guess that's a little extra motivation.

Here's some more Vilppu, followed by some random sketches to make sure I don't lose my fun. I'm only in the beginning stages, but I'm really happy with how well Vilppu and Loomis's approaches compliment each other, they both have something to offer that makes the other a bit easier to grasp.

What I admire is how animated your characters are, how they flow and don't just stick together. Even with the emotions, they just fit the face. I really admire your cartooning skills. =)

And it looks like you got a grasp of anatomy through the human form and not all the muscles and bones and all that, which is pretty bad ass. Maybe you did draw all that, I just don't see any of it, but its all good.

I actually started out trying to learn more about drawing correct muscles and it was just really frustrating. Nothing seemed to flow, everything was stiff (you can see some of those sketches earlier in the thread). I'm now taking a step back and trying to go for a more flowing overall figure, so I'm glad that you were able to notice that.

And yeah, Photoshop is great for doing figure studies, although I still do most on paper.

That is one awesome onion! The difference of the colour temperatures in the reflections (where the light reflects from the ground to the underside of the onion) is really good. I'd love to see a still-life or too

Nice little sketchbook you have here, like your onion. I'd say keep working on the structure of your figures, you know how it's done but it could be a little more exact now and then. My apoplogies if i sound too pedantic :l

I really like that figure in the last picture, it seems to move and be very mobile! Great work on the guy in jeans above that too.

Those Vilppu learnings look great too, I'll really have to look into that.

Maybe some more character work...? You do such great faces and bodies so far, I'd like to see a person develop from it more.
