Help required with Ellipses in perspective.

I'm working on a painting of my car (because I'm selling it... *sniff*), but I'm not really well versed on how to draw ellipses in perspective.

I've worked out the major and minor axes for the ellipses (or at least I think I have...) but every attempt at drawing the curves looks awful.

Is there a special technique one can use to pinpoint various points of the curve or would I be best investing in an ellipse stencil?

make squares for the wheels, cross the diagonals, then raise a vertical line and a horizontal one both through the center. Mark off 2/3 from the center on the diagonals. The circle of the wheel will hit the top most points and the points you marked off on the diagonals.

I was sketching on my front steps the other day.. drawing the cars on my street. The tires were wrong every single time. Nice Celica by the way But ya Panchos method is nice.. I tried it out it works well

panchosimpson: Thank you (and thanks for the link, some great info there)! After several attempts I was able to get them 'sort of' okay, but I managed to wreck an otherwise promising line drawing by adding shadow where it was totally unnecessary. Practice makes perfect, plenty of cars in the lot. Thanks again.

biggjoee5790: Yeah, the square method is definately the way to go it seems. (I'm sure I saw this on the Scott Robertson DVD, I should go through it again). Well done on identifying the Celica! Breaks my heart to sell it, but that's an oncoming recession for ya!
