I like the illustration (especially the expressive poses) but I have absolutely no idea what it means/represents in terms of the article you are illustrating.
This piece will probably be praised by your teacher. But, I afraid it makes no sense to me.
At least Icarus tried!

Hmm.. i like the article, but i find your girls looking rather... defeated instead of all AAAAAAAAAARHGGHGHGH I'LL GET THERE, A-HOLES, JUST WAIT!- actionready. It changes the emotion of what the viewer thinks, making the feminism look lost instead of a powerful stream into worlds history.
Also, it doesn't communicate well enough to me that she's looking at the other chicks to paint. The hiding arms could be a lot stronger, bigger, as their influence is bigger than that. The font is nice, but i think the colors of the girls are too similar to the bg, making them blend together too much.
I might seem a bit harsh, but i'm critting the piece in context of your story. Without that background, i agree with Kev, the poses are expressive and the girls are enjoyable to look at.
nice initial idea! but i don't really get the pose of the artist girl...maybe if she was holding a paintbrush or something it would be more apparent she was an artist?
