Waffles... of doom! And value studies.

    Hello all
This will be the thread in which me and Quicksilver will be posting our value studies. They will be pretty. Come look at them!
Each week we'll be doing studies on the same subject.
We will be posting our studies and critiques on each other's work. Also I guess I'll be posting step-by-steps of my works since I like doing them for some strange and mysterious reason...
Ssooo... feel free to do the studies yourselves.
If you have any questions, I'll try to answer as many as I can, but because of shortage of free time most of my feedback will be on Quicksilver's work.

    Anyway, here're the pictures.
First is a pencil rendering tutorial I did just in case someone finds it useful.

Here are a few simple demos using the techniques described above.

Here is our first assignment. We chose a photo from Photoset 26 at www.characterdesigns.com. Then we decided it'll be ever so fun if we did studies of it! And so we did! Or will do... First one should be a pencil study, the other - Photoshop. The object of the studie is value so they'll be monochrome.

    Here's the photo:

    Here is my pencil study:

When I look at it now it's not all that great, buut... That's what we're here for - learning stuff!
    Here is a step-by-step:

Here is link to a hi-res version of the step-by-step. Keep in mind it's 1,2MB (1374x10075 px) though.

Now we just wait for Naomi to post her studies and for me finish my digital one.

EDIT: Due to technical difficulties no digital stuff will be posted until... no technical difficulties are present. So pencil only for now.

Is it ok for outsiders to comment in these sorts of threads?

"laws that forbid the carrying of arms . . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
