Question First post- any criticism highly appreciated.

Hi! I've just joined ConceptArt. Everyone's artworks are really amazing, you make me feel small and pathetic in comparison! Oh well, nobody gets anywhere without a bit of hard work.

I was wondering if anybody could offer their thoughts on this drawing? It's one of the first I've drawn digitally. It took about- maybe two or three solid hours? It's hard to tell, drawing on and off. Thus this is not the culmination of my life's practice- I'd just like some things for me to work on in future. Like it or hate it, please tell me!

    Nice to meet you all!

hi and welcome to CA which definitly is a place to learn and there is plenty to learn for everybody

    now for your pic:
    1: drop the colour
it doesn't do any good at the moment cause you have to learn more important things first
    2: drop digital
what you need now is a pencil not a cpu
    3: drop the comic style
comic style always is simplification + exegeration which is not good to lear as a basis for further development

do a lot of drawings from life like: a tea cup, ppl at the subway your dog ...
draw whatever comes across your way
    start with simple objects

pay attention to lighting and shadow a lot
you can create a lot of different feeling shadows with a pencil
    draw
    draw a lot
draw at least 15 minuits a day

    and you will improve
    my sketchbook
    friends Sketchbooks:Dile_, Stine
my flickr go there if you want to see my photography stuff

I will go back to drawing with pencil and paper to improve for a while, thankyou! I was just trying out my new tablet to see how well how I could draw and colour digitally....guess I'll leave that for a few months of drawing from life.

    Welcome,

    Tablets are wild strange things.
I've had one for about a year now and at first I thought it was going to replace my need for pencils and paper, and everything was going to look so cool... then after a few long hours of trying to figure out the software and hardware issues, and reading tutorials and asking advice I came to realize that you still have to have the basics of working with line, value and color down before you can really put too much reliance on what the tablet can do.

When it is new you think you are going to crank out incredible artwork with it because of all the stuff it can do. After a while you realize that it's you that has to be able to do the fancy stuff, and it is just another tool you can use as means to an end.

But, don't abandon the thing, play with it, learn how to use it,
but by all means keep working with 'simple tools' (pencils, paint) as well.

I think your drawing is good, & straight forward. It doesn't look like it was specifically done digitally.

If you are going to play with the tablet, why not try and do something that you could not easily do otherwise? Experiment with it. Experiment wildly.
    I know I did.

But keep working with pencils & paper too!
The more you do, the better you will handle everything else, including the tablet.

I hope to see more of your artwork, with or without the tablet.
    Keep at it!

Oh, you're so right! It's exactly like that. I'll try and use the tablet for th e more outlandish works and improve my technical drawing skills on paper. Thankyou for leaving such good detailed advice and taking the time to comment =D
