Self portrait did it too late last night. Bears a resemblance. One problem is that the shading in the dark side of my face is uneven because of the H leads I am using I'm having another look for 2B leads in a shop in my town but I dunno If they'll have em.

dude the rendering on that is top notch but some of the proportions seem off like how short the chin is Still though the rendering is really great!

Finally go me some 2B leads for my mech pencil and really wanted to draw something. Nothing was coming out right and this is really the best thing. Looked at it in the mirror and there are a lot of issues but I still have a lot to learn.

You're doing great. Well, greater than me anyways. I can't really give you any critiques unfortunatly though.. The only thing I might dare say is that the last one looks like he's tipping over backwards even though it's just a little. That selfportrait is very good though (Unlike mine). Well, keep it up!

Hey bro nice job on those last few I love the darks in there also picking a lightsource just makes it seem "better" good job on the last few they are both pertty nice sketches just something to keep in ming that it seems like a lot of your characters have really low hips and that the crotch should be higher lol

you have some really good rendering but your form on that recent character seems a little flat. maybe try doing some drawings from reference and focus on following the curvature in lines before you render render it to get a better idea of how shadows wrap around volumes.

otherwise this is some really good stuff, i definitely enjoy looking at your work.

hi there, im 16 now, but when i was your age one thing i wish i had done in abundunce was still/life drawings, back then i had no idea that this would reflect on imaginitive drawings. i think you should do more of those, and also do so anatomy and master studies.
And rememeber a picture is never a failiure as long as you learn something from it.

markey2d its not that I don't know they are good for imaginative drawing its just that I suppose I get lazy. Still I try to do some of that stuff. Thanks for the advice.

Okay I was at my cousins last night so I couldn't update last night but here is some stuff from yesterday. Haven't really had a chancedo draw today but should do later.

Oh yeah and I just realised that the figure is slanting slightly to the left.

http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1192123824 I've noticed you tend to make the edges/contours/boundaries of your shadow shapes too hard, notice how it looks like he has a beard because of this. To keep the shadow looking transparent you have to blur it's edges, notice this in real life.
Another thing I noticed is that you tend to use drooping shapes, like on this guy http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1192384070, to me he looks like he just crawled in from the rain, all dejected.
The droopyness is caused by the appearance of the form being pulled by gravity, sort of like drops of water:

One quick fix is to use straighter lines, so you'll end up with angles at the joints. This will stiffen your figures some, which is a constant critique around here, but it is useful for getting structure into your figures. By structure I mean you can use those straight lines to clarify perspective, you'll get more solidity because you can show the convergence towards a vanishing point with those lines.
I'm currently reading "Design and Expression in the Visual Arts" by John F. A. Taylor, it's useful for understanding the way elements within a picture interact.

Reject-D Yer I spose thats because at the moment I'm really trying to get the anatomy correct in normal poses and work on my rendering then get some more actiony poses.



Some quicker anatomy from last night. I find doing quick studies is more helpful for me because I find it easier to take in what I've learned.

hahaha, I'm very greatful my friend! But yea, its nice to do quick studies here and there but the best thing would be to learn while doing the work you enjoy. As in use refs after sketching a quick pose just to get the muscle structure down.

Thats if youre too lazy to actually do the studies on their own though. haha

Also the people I kept are people I know well over the forums and have talked to a lot. Don't just post in my book because you are angry over my bloody signature.

Mr D Lol yer good avice. I should use more reffs. I've heard posemaniacs isnt actually very good unless you know anatomy well as a 3D model has its fault. This fantsy anatomy book I bought has quite a few good photo refs I could use. Anyway I actually quite enjoy doing stufie because I find it quite satisfying to get the anatomy right. Maybe thats just me.

good work! I know what you mean by it being satisfying when you nail but you'll never completely get it without actually knowing it completely! Can't just make all that stuff up you know, it would be best to study just to push your work that much further. I'm not sayin you gotta draw form 24/7, just here and there will do to keep it fresh in your mind.
