Voted wandering prophet, such amazing detail. Bravo!
Ollie
Cheers OMB, appreciate the vote
voted for wanderingprophet's pirate. the pose and detail (especially the costume) seems to bring out the character of the pirate .
garyo, come really close to getting my vote, if only she's looking thru a scope or something more to give her character the pirate feel.
omb, like the concept but the culpt read more like a good old pal from the swamp. or maybe a retired pirate? seating in his backyard swamp with lizards (instead of parrot) dangling his amputated legs from his adventures...
borax, again nice concept, i couldnt feel the character coming thru... maybe i should read the wip more...
didnt realise such an activity exist, only visited the cow chow eow.
i love you guys! this looks great!
Not a problem Borax and thank you for the compliment.
Zenichi, maybe I'll do an alternate and swap the rum for a telescope. It was a fine line to tread between saucy wench and pirate. I actually thought about adding a pet parrot or monkey to her sholder, but then I would have been late on finishing.
In the end I voted for OMB, Capn' croc made me laugh when I saw your first wip. I hope you take him further and refine him.
I also open the floor up to thoughts on the next challenge...

Next challenge, anthropomorphism, I'm sure that could be specified more, but it would be a good bit of challenge I believe
Thanks Garyo!
erm maybe a ' cowboys and indians' theme?
That way you have a choice of two ways to go.
Ollie
Cowboys and Indians would be boring, IMHO, I've done a Gunslinger piece and a Native american concept character, and it's just not that exciting. All dustercoats and feathers. I think the next project should specifically be non-humans, that's why I said anthropomorphism, cause you can garantee no two peoples projects will look the same
BTW Garyo, I've been meaning to ask this, is your avatar David Bowie?
Last edited by WanderingProphet; July 24th, 2007 at 08:20 PM.
wanderingprophet, yeah, thanks for asking the question on garyo's avatar, was going to ask the same
what about picking some from the pass cow or chow winners? or alternate between human (for exercise purposes, much like the skullz challenge) and non-human theme (for character exploration or other skills??) just a thought. would really like to participate...but i'll need to go thru some basic exercise first before i can join. will try to muster some courage and post something soon in the near future...
really like the skull challenge, too bad i didnt join earlier. total beginner, with a box of sculpey sitting in the corner waiting... would hav been great exercise to participate and force oneself to sculpt! much like the other weekly activities!!
Yo zenichi, you got a question or need any pointers just send em my way, always down to help a new sculptor
Voted for OMB because I love that corck. Though I really like all of the entries. Grats on kicking butt WP.
I'd love another basic challange dealing with arms or legs, bones, muscles etc. Construction and all. And maybe a challange dealing with a study of classic sculpture. Classicism or Neoclassicism.
WP, for the literary challanged what's anthropomorphism?
K
-> Dream In A Dream <-
A humanized animal, any talking cartoon animal you've ever seen that has a humanized physical structure or facial features is an example, Everything from Bugs Bunny to Lion-O, and all in between.
Just finished painting my Pirate girl, figured I'd squeeze this in

My icon is indeed the Thin White Duke, from his Heathen album a few years ago.
So far we have:
Anthropomorphic- Which is humanizing something that is not human and can go much deeper than Lion-o
Cowboys -n- Indians
A Basics
Recreating a Classic
COW or a CHOW- Zenichi, do you have one in mind? We will need the originating artists 'ok'
I'll be able to run and organize the next one but my spare sculpting time is going to be a bit strapped next month, so I don't know how active I'll be in making something. With that in mind I want to wait for September to do another Basics Sculpt.

hav no idea... or rather spoiled with choices.... maybe partial sculpt? like a bust of a CHOW or a limb of a COW?
Anthropomorphic... learn something new todaysome of pixar's animation's character? would they be classified as anthropomorphic???
neoclassicism bust that had grown a (adam's family) hand.... hope that make sense??? (what's neoclassicism anyway?? i'll google it)
thanks for the offer to help-out newbies, will need plenty of help when i try my hand on one these activities...
the coloured pirate= jane sparrow? smoky eyes!!
Last edited by zenichi; July 25th, 2007 at 01:37 PM.
It's pretty funny that I put smoky eyes on a female pirate and the first thing to associate that with is a male character. Ask a Ninja was right!
BTW Garyo, Don't Nuthing Go Deeper den Lion-O Yo!
Not heard any seconds of the four topics so far...
How would you guys feel about something in 3-D like the Gangus Tribute CHOW? http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...wpost&t=102427 Like many I've also been a great fan of Gangus' aviation art and having been lucky enough to have my mom survive what Gangus succumbed to, makes me want to do a tribute too. What do you guys think?

well garyo that sounds like a very, very hard thing to do, so I am in. since i wanted to participate in the chow but my drawing skills suck more than my 3-d skills. so it gets my vote
i've only join the forum for less than a month, but i've noticed Gangus thread. i'm not familiar with the concept of "victory gals" but after the thread and CHOW's entires, i think i got some idea what it means. a good idea, but in a sculpt of female figure and vehicle would be a real challenge for a first timer like myself, i second it anyway.
can we use model kits for the vehicle? or just the gal figures would do?
some images of japanese interpretation of mecha, thanks, vehicles and gals...
(images are from www.toyskingdom.com.hk & www.toysdaily.com))
Lets not do anime characters. please
Last edited by WanderingProphet; July 28th, 2007 at 08:05 PM.
of course notwe'll only do wholesome, well-proportion women body
![]()
(any lady CA member reading this, feel free to step up and smack me in the face) the images are just some ideas to incorporate the machine and the gals and am not sure if they could be classified as voctory gal (apart from their anime proportion, hehe ), i can only think of a Victorian bicycle or tricycle victory gal?
(images from www.victorianbazaar.com)
Well a girl and a vehicle is a bit steep to do for most of us in a month, but I was thinking about a more restrictive challenge and base it on a single figure...
This one
What do you guys think do you like this or are we going to second one of the other proposals. I'll set up the new challenge thread tomorrow.

Garyo, are you talking about doing an exact replica of that piece? I'm not 100% on that, I can't replicate and sell an existitng design as well as I could an original concept. plus the Shiflett brothers have already done a gnarly Aviator girl and I'd rather do something that hasn't been done before to such a perfect degree.
I still think anthropomorphism is the way to go
Well you wouldn't be able to sell this at all without approval of Gangus' estate. I thought it would be nice for us to make our own tribute to Gangus' artwork like they are doing for the latest CHOW. If any of us did come up with a replica of the lovely avatrix good enough to sell I would suggest it be sold and donated to the Autism fund for his little boy. The purpose of doing these challenges is not to create a piece to put up for sale, but to learn and expand your skills. I know you didn't fully participate in this challenge so you didn't get the benefit of the peer review process, but that's the spirit that the challenge sections I believe are run here. If the group wants to do this, it sort of combines two of the suggestions already posed. That is choosing a CHOW to do and recreating a classic piece of art. I maybe interpreting both of those loosely, but I know if you guys take up this gauntlet you will learn and grow as artists
Tomorrow I'll look at any additional thoughts on this issue and in the evening EST I'll put the next challenge together.

Hmm. I gotcha Garyo, I just don't have time to do a piece that I can't sell right now, the wolves are prowling, and spare time is kind of nill. I'll be happy to see how this next challenge turns out.
