    Pages from the rainy city

Jump to the end for some newer work!
but feel free to browse through the time capsule that is this sketchbook thread,
some old stuff i dont hate yet throughout!

A little update of where I'm at now
Finished school, living in Victoria BC freelancing
(mostly design right now but hoping to update my portfolio and move into the illustrative arts a little more. Not that i don't love design, i do, but I genuinely want to draw for a living, not just conceptually.)
I have a great studio, where i can work on a variety of projects simultaneously, and a fantastic circle of artists animators and illustrators that i hang with here and get tons of inspiration from (maybe thats why I've been neglecting the online community?)
anyways, here's a little bit of what I've been up to lately!
Lots of gouache, just getting into it again, and I'm loving it for so many reasons!
Expect lots more of that, some cut paper and marker work from a street art phase i went through earlier this year with wheatpasting, and some digital work.
(I'm fairly behind in my digital skills, i still have the same tablet from when i was 17,
its a relic and it only has a 4x6 working area, but it works right?)
So the last couple are from the past few days, and everything before that is kind of a selection from the past year or so..
I'll try and upload more frequently so i don't have to do as many of these retrospective posts.

    cheers,
    t

Great start! Your drawings have a huge graphic art vibe, I love it. The poses and ways you coordinate everything on the page has comic books all over it. Maybe you should look into doing pencils in that field! You'd do great.

Will you make more of these? Please? o_o

    Wow - really good work!
You'd make a good comic book artist and I love the way you can fill the page with pencil detail that seems clean and well placed without clutter - Don't know if I can doodle like that - too impatient

The scythe girl and the last one are awesome. Please do venture into coloring, trying to conserve the beauty of your pencil work. I'm eager to see your sketchbook evolve.

Gah! comments, thanks guys..such good feedback!
as far as becoming a comic book artist yeah definitely a dream job of mine, i'v been working on a graphic novel of my own this past year, its just in its conceptual stages right now, working out the story, characters and environments but its definitely my brainchild...
its going really slow though because of work and school
hopefully over the summer i can get some more done
as far as posting more, and more color work thats easy enough
    coming right up!
the first one is from this last week
and the rest are from school. all the paintings are in oil (the second to last is a self portrait) and the third is just a random pen sketch.
*sorry the paintings scanned really dark..

Wow!! Such clear detail, as mentioned already!! I love that pencilling! To be able to do that and not smear a hand all over the page...WOW!! Very nice stuff, and awesome perspective and foreshortening!

The paintings have a richness that I can't quite explain, but I love them!

Hey there, I thought I recognized this art from somewhere else...and the name of the sketchbook. So, you get my first post. Your work is really great. I love the way you make your bold pencil lines work so well with the sketch. I can't wait to see some more from you. Have fun!

heh thanks everyone, glad you like
(civichbca91- you probably saw me around the PK forum, i kept the name of my sketchbook the same..thanks!)
i finally got my scanner hooked up to the new computer (my old one crashed)
    so i can upload again...
no photoshop though so im seriously limited in the cleanup and color managment capacities (also issues with re-sizing so they're a little big..sorry)
anyways first up is a marker sketch, just letrasets and black line and then a couple pages from my sketchbook

Awesome stuff so far! I love the gypsy and death lady pics. What school are you going to? I went to VFS but I wish I had gone for something more like Emily Carr(not saying VFS was bad but my choices in art have shifted away from sci fi and animation). You shouldn't have a problem finding work in Van. I miss that place!

Just noticed that you're in Vic right now. Do you have other friends here that draw? I'd love to get some artists together for some sketch sessions. I don't know anyone else here that draws. Another thing I miss about Van.

sketch-i pm'd you back about the questions so no use writing it twice..
    just a couple new things
some marker and oc stuff (new to opencanvas sooo fun..somehow easier to paint wth than photoshop..wtf?) turns out i can do some digital now, pretty sure i cant import hand drawn sketches though, so its all just tablet drawn stuff.. sorry the oc stuff is so big cant really figure out how to re-size properly, i could only crop...

time for a revival i think,
i'v amassed a decent amount of work since my haitus (mostly the fault of summer and an insane work schedule)
so heres some really recent doodles from my sketchbook
as well as some older digital stuff.
paintings and life drawings to be uploaded later.

the first is a sketch of some kids from class
the next is just a random bus doodle
3rd is conceptual work for a sleeve for a friend of mine
    4th...more bus doodling

i'll upload some more finished color work next time
    till then
    thanks! and feedback welcome

Yay, you're back! I still like how you seem to have this 'North West' feel to your work. You may have told me already but what school are you going to? Kinda sounds like it has a good mix of subjects.
