    Sketches from this week

Here are a few speed sketches and concept pieces from the last week...Starting to be able to do more of this now that the project I'm working on is winding down. All black and white...guess I'm in my black and white phase. Oh well, hope you like these, they were fun.

awesome, really great for sketches. I like the space explorers piece.
the Vader figure's shoulders seem very wide, but the storm trooper is really excellent
Look, you know what I mean. You take a bunch of people who don’t seem any different from you or me, but when you add them all together you get this sort of huge raving maniac with national borders and an anthem.

Thanks, Kilbourne. Yeah, I was really looking to stylize the armor...not so concerned for it matching a human form exactly being a robot partially. I'm playing around as a side project on the site with reconcepting Star Wars and this was a take on the armor. Trying to work a little more whimsical fantasy feel into it...a little Final Fantasy maybe. The trooper and the Vader armor are still very true to the original designs so I'm working to come up with something a little more original but conveys the same feel...it's been a fun exercise so far. Glad you like them. Thanks for the crits.

I like my vaders bulky and heavylooking. But very good job in all of these! The stormtrooper re-design is very very cool, and the last one is awesome too. Oldtime spacerockets are the best...

I like the first one and the last one...
The first image... I would love it no matter what depicted in this,,, because more than anything I appreciate the emotion in lines and shape and randomly created hand made textures.
This frozen motion makes me feel great looking at this... I would compare it to the caught wave in stormy ocean or I would compare it to Rodin sculptures... his figures and dynamics are great like in the image of yours... but there is one more motion in his creation... on the surface of the bronze, ... if you look at the surface of this sculptures and you will feel your nerves getting touched, or better say disturbed, violated... surface is moving, cracks, scratches, uneven planes make you feel unsettled and bothered. it feels a lot like pain or energetic impact or desire to throw a viewer from a balance... I feel the same in your first image... huge impact... very powerful.
I like the last image for communication and for feeling of this happening in front of my eyes... current moment... so truthful and unprepared and natural faces and body language.
    thanks

I thought about doing it in color...but decided just to leave it as a sketch...I do those things and then months later I sometimes get back to doing a color version. I'm actually doing a series of these right now...kind of a retro them...old b movie serial ideas updated a bit, so I'll be posting more in the awhile. I love that old retro stuff.
