my only advice is using more accurate strokes when you draw a portrait....

yes it is cool scetch.. but when you draw face.. or any part of human body try to shade it very softly (but not too smoothly!!!) and use for base tones very hard pencil...

couze your drawing and anatomy skills are good, your portraits would become more interesting with soft shading...

but yeah- as for scetch - it is very good

These photos were taken by my sculpting instructor and sent to me via e-mail. I completed these about a month ago for a class assignment that involved designing chess pieces. My theme was Cthulu because "anything with Cthulu in it is fine by me"- or however that saying goes... I actually decided on that theme after completion of the king, or I may have done something different with him.

Well......sculptures.....


the queen... now that I think about it, maybe her torso turned out a little manly....

and an example of a glazed work(bishop).


I began sculpting last fall, and I find it to be very enjoyable. Hopefully, I will progress....

I posted an earlier version of this in the wips section. I've worked on it a bit since then, but I'm sure it still has issues in the way it's constructed and in the way it interacts with its environment (mainly the ground). Feel free to point out my flaws.
It may be some time before I return to this piece- It seems I'm going to be busy with other things for awhile.

Some really strong rendering and detailed characters here. Have you seen Shirow's stuff? It looks like it may be a strong influence for you.

Hey man, some really good studies, the William Maughan study looks great. Your line is looking really nice but some of the line sketches look a little flat (the He/She image). Maybe try and use your lines to describe form a little more, even using a faint line or leaving the line out completely where the light is directly hitting the subject.

softocean- I assume you're speaking of Masamune Shirow. Although I've seen some of the art from Ghost in the Shell, I'm not completely familiar with the artist; however, I am now curious enough to research him a bit. Thanks for coming by.

krossj- Thank you. Now that you mention it, the character in this post probably has the same issue. I'll keep your crit in mind- playing with lines has been fun for me lately.
