Those are great Main Loop, I especially like the figures. Only crit is that the neck on the 2nd one (lady's back) is too thin.
Just started learning oils. It's quite challenging, but fun! I plan to make some time for still life and plein air paintings too.

This is wonderful to see! You are all really painting- not just "coloring." I think you could help each other more if you'd list the colors you used, how you prepared the canvas, and what medium you mixed with the paint.

Nice portrait Mentler.
Looks a bit serious/angry though -I blame the glasses.
Here's a couple that I've done this week. I just set-up a little oil painting corner in a spare room and these are my first paintings in five years. It's definitely this site that influenced me to get started again. I got the idea of painting the paint tube from Coro's posts earlier in the thread. It's nice to do art away from the computer. It feels more real. I hope my beginnerish attempts don't sully this thread too much.
Very nice brushwork! Elcoro is one of my favorites on this website.I too am getting back into painting.

new portrait!
Mainloop nice job with that last head! the body looks too small though. You might also want to really punch up the contrast in your plein air work to get that nice sunny feeling, also, the figure would be stronger if there were some cools mixed in too, especially considering that blue couch she's reclining on.
Exema: phenomenal values on that skull! Are you applying a thin, grayed out color to the shadow area over a light yellowish ground? I've been trying to do that too, you notice it a lot in 19th century artists, but also in Rockwell, Rembrandt, etc....I just saw it in a bunch of paintings at the LA county museum of art, makes things look very convincingI would recommend making the different planes of the cheek (as it transitions into the zygomatic arch) more apparent, and also re-studying the outline on the left side, the transition from the cheek to the muzzle of the face creates a bigger dent in the outline from that angle....awesome transition from the brow to the eye sockets though!

Wow, there's a lot of good stuff going on here. Without digging back through time, just on this page I see really good stuff from panchosimpson and main loop. Just for example.
Here's a few more that I've done recently:
A self portrait, yes I am really this red:

A digital camera:
A chrome utility knife
If anybody has any critiques I'd love to hear. I find it hard to be precise with paint. Therefore I tend to lose my drawing. This is one criticism I'd say against myself. I also need to set up some light sources so that I have better lighting, at least for portraits.
Loop, that last black man's portrait is very awesome.
Mentler, 6x6 portrait ftw, nice colors man.
Some four color portraits that turned out all right.
You're an artist, not a meat camera. -Elwell
More landscape painting practice
Main Loop, your landscapes are very good. I especially like the last three.
2 session plein air I sold about a month ago

it's hard to say, I worked on it for about 4 days, only when I really felt like it, that is, I stopped whenever I could feel myself getting lazy or tired. I think I worked like 4 hours on two days, 2 hours on other days....so maybe like 12 hours but very scattered and with a lot of breaks. The pot was painted really quickly, so was most of the main stuff, I just got bogged down tidying things up.
New member, A couple of new still lifes. Hex nuts 5x7 1 hour, Tea pot & vase 11x14 2 hours.
Ramon, very nice work!

Memorial Day Paints
Loop: nice, I particularly like the clouds in the last one. I would say darken your darks when working outdoors though, most of your pleirs need a lot more contrast
Here's one for the day, and a still life in progress ..about 20% there (sorry for the really bad pic, will post new one when I'm done with it)
two plenair paintings, 24x30 cm on board, about 3 hours each.
