Exclamation Sheridan Computer Animation Portfolio Examples

    Hi Everyone

I am thinking of applying to the computer animation program at sheridan and in an effort to make sure i'm not way out of my league i would like to see examples of portfolio work for people who got into that program.

Does anyone have a few samples they could share with me? Please post them here!! THanks!!!

If you want to animate, don't start computer animation unless you first understand and have experience with classical animation! Ask any major 3D company and they'll tell you the same thing.

Maxine is right. Venturing into 3D without a solid foundation in classical animation is a definite no-no. So many of the 3D works I've seen by people who don't always look artificial and CG. Anyway, to the best of my knowledge, the 3D program at Sheridan (or any school for that matter) is a post-diploma program. Try looking into their classical animation or illustration program first at http://www1.sheridaninstitute.ca/.

I'm sure they'll send you information if you contact them. Also, try booking a tour to see real examples of student work, studios, etc.

The portfolio requirements change from year to year, but it should include figure drawings from live models, still life drawing, drawings of your hand, a drawing of your room, and anything you want that best illustrates your abilities in perspective, layout, modelling, proportion, etc. Shading is not of primary importance; they're mostly looking for line qualities, and your ability to create shapes without distortion. Also, they provide you with 2 cartoon characters which you then create 4 separate scenarios for.

If you don't think you're ready, try doing their Art Fundamentals certificate program first. It's one year, and teaches you the basics in drawing, painting, drafting, design, and contemporary sculpture. However, it's not suited for everyone's needs, so I'd recommend taking courses at a local art school instead. I've been training at Toronto School of Art for about a year, and I've learned a lot more than I possibly could have in Art Fundamentals.
