I believe it man. I've worked on a drawing for 5 days before. I would have to commit seriously to a drawing to spend 60 hours on it - preferably a portfolio piece. I don't
doubt that spending that much time is well worth-while. I am pondering over
15 subjects I will do for a portfolio. Do you have any ideas or suggestions?

I know Bargue studies tend to last 30 - 50 hours more or less.

What was the link to those carl dobskys vids? I would be interested in watching.
Looked at your onion again - they look so real! did you paint those in Painter X?
I have to delve into some color studies of fruit and still life. Color fascinates me.
Sometimes when I'm engrossed in a color study my instincts take over and
I am not sure how it will turn out because it comes to a point that I am
a shy bit overwhelmed. Either way its fun and I learn something.

hey dan (i posted this on your SB too),

I'm doing what you are doing too; a new (maybe) folio piece. I've started a still life... the most complex I've tried to date, and I'm expecting it'll take me a couple of days. Just to make mistakes and fix them and learn as I go.

Those Carl Dobsky vids I was talking about are from the Discovery 5 week art course now happening on CA. If you can afford it, it's WELL worth it. End up being something stupid like $7 a hour... probably even less cause most classes go overtime.

Those onions were doing in ps using a quick block in technique, then add detail last. Big shapes then detail. As for you folio, paint what interests you. Paint what defines you as an artist. Paint what you want to learn. I paint from life at the moment; anything and everything, because I want to imitate it in my imaginative pieces. Think about why you got started as an artist in the first place and channel that passion into your art.

That Obama painting is ace man, the skin tones look very true to life. Your brushwork is very clean as well, that's something that I always like about your paintings.

AlexTooth: thanks for your kind words. I've never been called stylish before.

Hey Soundpath: cheers, that clean brush work only happens when polish like crazy... tunnelvision!

Adam: Thanks mate, I'll see you in class.

Here a sneak preview of a still life I'm working on purely to practice colour. Mental note: pebbles are a pain in the ass to paint.

Wow, there's some intense studying in the air here! Your value still lives look top notch, the eye sketches you did after the cast look live and what you wrote about the use of colours is a very interesting read and the very solid looking Obama painting makes clear what you're talking about. Reading this SB, almost feels like I'm learning from your learning. Which is very inspiring, I'll have to try out some value studies soon.

    Damn, you're amazing o-o
Thanks for the comment on my sketchbook haha, I dont have clay to sculpt things with but I'm gonna go back to traditional for a while now i think. My tablet broke. *sobs*

I love your still life pieces, mine are always hard because I have an awkward desk, and i have to set up other tables and mess around a bit but i always get some crazy perspective issues, since I'm moslty looking down on it all the time.
Please keep posting, you're very inspirational!

Hey smuli. I think we are all learning from each others learning here. That's the best thing about this place, there is always someone that has the answers to your questions.

Elz! Thanks for your visit. Great to hear you are still painting/drawing even though you've got a borked tablet.

So here's the final version of the still life.... I've learnt as much as I can from this one. Onto the next one.

Awesome still life! The only thing that might be a little bit off would be the shadow under the paintbrush - Almost like you've made the shadow too dark (from what i can see on the photograph below it) and partly looks like you've moulded a ledge for the paintbrush?
Could just be me, though. It's amazing

Good work on the still life. Try to give the red cloth more hue variation. Right now it's that what makes it look not real. In the photo, for example, the brightest parts appear yellow-orange instead of red.
    Anyway, cool work!
    Cheers mate

    whoo, back online.

hey Dy.laneA: I'll pop into your SB and see what you've been up to also!

Here's a couple of speedies I did to take a break from character work... doing enviros is really freeing for some reason. I enjoyed these a lot more than I though I would. More to come.

Ya environments are fun, actually a lot of the times I see outside strike some awe in me when I'm out walking around. Especially now that I'm beginning to learn how to paint. Colors seem so much more vivid some how.

    Keep it up!
