    Absolutely stunning!

Anyone who helped bring this game to life, and especially those that made it so visually epic should be deemed at a near god-like status.

Andy, your visions and art made for one of the best games i have ever played. (and I work for a software company) I don't find myself staying late into the night for "just one more checkpoint".. but with God of War II... I have done it once, and now going through it again.

You are a talented guy! Please besure to share more work down the road... God of War II was hands down one of the visually best games I have ever seen. With the opening of the game having the collosus of rhodes towering in there.. My coworkers and I have decreed that because of this, should God of War III come out, it's the thing worth buying a PS3 for!

On a side note: I actually have a few comics with your art on the cover amoungst the bookshelves that retain my comic collection (i refer to it as my "reference material" section of my home when asked by non-geeky people) Weapon X, and one or two Excaliber.

The Sisters of Fate must be working on something here..I was always interested in getting the game and when I saw there was an artbook coming out I went out and got the artbook. I loved the artbook so much I bought the first game, after beating the first one I bought the second one..now God of War is probably my all time favorite game..I can't believe I waited so long to play it. The concepts you guys did are amazing this is one of my favorite books. Not only did the book make me want to play the game but I've started to study all the greek mythology too.

I wanted to know since you did comics before..is there any chance we might see a God of War comic?

    Heleos- no prob

Tanatos- Thanks! I appreciate the kind words all the way from Italy!

    spazazo- Gracias.

alti- That's a good thing, right? Hey, I'm trying to get better everyday. I guess that's our plight as artists- never stop trying harder...

BlightedArt- thanks! The majority of my career has been in the comic book industry as well as doing illustrations for magazines and such. I wanted to get into concept work so I started painting all the time in my spare time using Painter and Photoshop. I was able to build up a portfolio that had both character and environment concepts. I was able to show it to the art lead who worked on the original God of War game and I guess he liked it enough to show it to the people at Sony and I was able to get an interview. And the rest is history. Was that the question you were asking?

Soul Karl- thanks! Yeah, that was definitely the goal- to improve upon the first. I had a blast working with such a talented group of guys.

MagnusApollo- I'm glad you like the game. I'm still playing it myself and having a ton of fun too. I'm happy to hear that you have some of my old comic book work. =>

    Crazydude- thanks man!

Chris Noeth- thanks- it's nice to see my comic work being remembered.

Madman!- Yeah, I got into late also. I didn't play the game until I got hired here. And wasn't I pleasantly surprised to find out what a great game the original was. God of War comic? I haven't heard anything about it, but you never know, right?

Wow, these are absolutely bad ass man. Some mean looking monsters I would never want to bump into, and the throne rooms are sick, I bet they were fun to make, and I hope you guys get to do something with Kratos' brother in the next game. Good job!

Hi Andy!! Could you give me please a link where I can buy the artbook of god of war?? I've searched a lot in amazon, in bradygames.com, in EB Games, but I haven't found it.... Can you help me??

Another question: Does exsist a site where there are some posters of god of war? And.... does exsist a your sketchbook or artbook??

    Thanks a lot

That's basically it, yeah! See I'm just a little worried. 'Cause I'd absolutely love to get into the game design scene much like how you have (though I'm confident I can get to a high level, it'll definetely be no where near how good your work is), but I haven't gone to Uni or colledge or anything... And I'm not too sure where to go or what to do other than small indie game mods in my spare time after work.

I'm also nearly 20, so it's getting progressively harder in making a decision. Sorry to be talking about myself so much, but since you've been to the peak of the mountain, I wanted to know what the view was like from up there!!

Dabaers- Yeah, these were all really fun to do. It really is a great world to play around in.

    blaschke- Thanks, I appreciate it!

Tanatos- No prob- here's the official name of the strategy guide that has the artbook in it: God of War II Limited Edition Strategy Guide (Bradygames Strategy Guides) (Bradygames Strategy Guides) (Paperback)
Just type that in Amazon or wherever and you'll find it. It's cheaper to buy it online than at any store. I'm not sure about posters. I've never seen that. And as far as a sketchbook/artbook of my work, I haven't done that yet, but I I do plan on doing those in the future. Besides that, my artwork can be seen in different books/magazines here and there through the years. Check out my bio/resume on my website. It'll show you some of the work I've done, cool? Thanks!

Zoio- Thanks man! I used mainly Photoshop on those. I do use Painter sometimes, but I'd say those paintings were 99% Photoshop.

tokaru- Thanks for the kind words. As far as how long each of those took, that's always a weird one to answer. The reason is b/c the painting itself usually just takes about 1-3 days to paint, but b/c they are concepts that need to get approved, there's a constant back and forth between myself and the game director. I'd do a painting and he'd make comments and want changes/adjustments. And that process can go on and on for literally even weeks. It's pretty crazy how much back and forth there is. Some are faster than others, but usually the director's pretty particular esp. when it comes to characters. So those take longer.

    Thalion- Thanks alot!

BlightedArt- I totally understand your desire to want to make great games and do great concepts, but not knowing where to start or where to go. Hanging out here at Concept.org is definitely a great starting point. Check out the job forums and stuff. Of course if you are able to go to some art college that would definitely be the best thing to do to improve your art to a maximum degree in the shortest amount of time. But I understand if school is not an option. But even things like life drawing at your local community college would be great. And definitely learn as much as you can from all the resources on the web to DVD tutorials (ie. Marko's dvd, Gnomon dvds, etc).

As far as practical job finding information is concerned, check out the job forums here, at gamasutra, and try to attend events like the Massive Black Events, Gnomon Events, etc. You wanna rub shoulders with guys from the industry and show your work around to companies. After all, no one will hire you if they've never seen your work.

So again, I hope I answered your question a bit. Feel free to email me with any other questions, cool?

    Good luck!

Thats awesome Andy! I never knew you did paintings. I met you and Budd at Parts Unknown Con in Greensboro in 06. You did a Powergirl sketch for me, and I had colored a page of Budd's Cavewoman. See you at Hero Con!

Nice work again! You make me sick! (just kidding)

That's awesome man, thanks for the advice! I had a look at some of the DVD's you recommended (or the site that holds them) and am severely tempted to get a couple of them now. I have a few concept sketches that I've done for a small-time free game mod (it's a Battlefield 2142 mod that's coming up).

I know you said to e-mail you further questions But would it be cool to send you one or two of the sketches to see if you can give a couple pointers? Thanks again for all the help.

P.S. I'm thinking of buying the GoW II strategy guide for the concept art supplied with it... Heheh.

It was great to see your work "in the flesh" so to speak at the art show. What an interesting gallery... reminded me of "Giant Robot" on Sawtelle St. That raffle was intense... it's just too bad the artbook dosen't come in a hardbound edition like the ones Sony made exclusively for you!

I absolutely loved the Colossus art that was on the Demo package and that piece with Kratos fighting the Barbarian King... and that was before I knew who was behind it.

    Honor to meet you.

Pietjeuh- woah, you found this old posting... thanks, I'm glad you like the art. As far as Hades is concerned, my ex-co-worker, Scott Seeto did that concept. You can find it, as well as a ton of his other great work, at his blog site: http://seetostudio.typepad.com/my_weblog/

    Check it out! Thanks!

YES! MONSTERS! I've been surfing through posts while doing some time-consuming processing work, and the Chimera and Cerberus really jumped out at me. Been reading and drawing monsters from mythology since I was a kid, so these are a real treat!!
