Always think about:
lighting! design! perspective! proportion!
And (self)motivation is still everything.
I see what you mean man, it might be confusing but i assure you its really interesting too!
i do see what you mean about the narrative, so i'll correct my statement, i probably meant its (imho) the most important motif in commercial art such as illustration and sequential art, as design and description are for concept art-does that make more sense?
man-those thumbnails are really, really, really cool. The control (or the blob wrangling, if you prefer) is really impressive-can't wait to see more!
Both creature pieces look really cool and i remember that alien piece too, it was- uh man, i'm getting repetitive here.
rock 'on, and please go get stinking rich while you're at it, cause i'm pretty sure you deserve it.
Such awesome stuff!
Your stuff is awesome.
like the none referenced wrong back studies, and Alien hanging with the cat watching tv![]()
Great thumbnails.
I hear ya 'bout the Primacolor pencils. Bought a few black ones awhile back and they would all break upon sharpening.
If you're looking for a nice black pencil, I recommend the Cretacolor Nero.

William ! Really like what I see, love the watercolor pencilsYay.
Hahah , that alien is so cute! I love the cat pose too.
Oh ..and.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!![]()

ModestMouse - Yeah, that poster is from the first season or two of "The X-Files". I have a copy, and it seemed amusingly fitting for me to include it in this scene. I'm glad you like the colour... Even if I were to polish the image up, I doubt I would alter the colour -- That was pretty much exactly the atmospheric effect I was shooting for.Not sure what you mean about "reflections from the t.v."... Maybe on the glass he's holding?
Carnifex - Do you?? I was surprised that I still had it on my HD -- I thought I was gonna have to hunt it down in a pile of discs! 5 years was slightly shocking to me, but I'm also pretty used to the past 10 years seeming like about 3, so...
TheGnoll - Thanks for the various comments, and for liking stuffs! I'm sure that when I finally get some narrative muscles built up, and am not the veritable weakling, I'll be running around championing storytelling in all its visual forms!I'm glad you're diggin the H20-colour-pencil thumbs. More to come.
kidult - Thank you!
PurplePlatypus - Thanks! I should do some more fake back musckles, hmm... and maybe some real type, also.
HunterKiller_ - Thanx! Yah -- See what I'm saying? -- PRISMACOLOR® makes its pencils too damn soft to be usable, and I will bitch about it any time I mention colored pencils to any artist. I'm gonna complain to the store that sold 'em to me, and will write that company a friggin letter. Hell, I think I'll send them their stupid pencils back with a sharpener full of their broken tips, just to shame them. Thanks for the tip about CRETACOLOR... are those just regular, or are they watercolor? I have eyes only for watercolor pencils right now.
Idiot Apathy - Yah? Thank yew! Will be many more, and they'll get ever better, too, maybe, I hope.
Iridyse - Thanks for looking -- I thought you might be tickled.Thank you also for the birthday well-wishery!
There's a bit of extra-wise Giger-on-the-brain since I found out that it's official: RIDLEY SCOTT IS DEFINITELY DOING A 2-PART 3D PREQUEL TO ALIEN!! Which has me dizzy. And which I am also angry jittery about. And which has me stopping and starting in fits. I am so heartbroken by this if I can't get in on the action. But, maybe it's best that I'm not. But I must be. I am wrenched to and fro. [*wanders into traffic*]
So, here's a rather large (60"x30") commissioned painting I just did (and a detail shot). That area where I was making a signature thing (lower right) I totally redid so it doesn't suck now. A few other tweaks, too, but nothing major. No title yet.
I like him cuteness. ^_^

He is a cute little fella.
No, those pencils are not watercolor. I just mentioned it because work beautifully like the primacolor blacks, sans breakage.
Also, I don't know if you're using water brush pens with your watercolor pencils. If not, you must! I've just recently managed to get a couple and I love them. So versatile for any water based mediums. [/salesman]
HunterKiller_ - I don't even know what water brush pens are... What are they, and which do you recommend?
Here're a couple more pages from my little moleskine, a bit larger than actual. Nothing astounding, obviously, just more necessary messin and a hand/boob study. As much of a blob as the bottom page is, it was a cool little playground for reactivating areas and morphing the form. The end result happens to be a formless mess, but the ability to take dried areas that already describe a form and to then completely shift them into something else is fucking amazing, and I eagerly anticipate more morphing. I might actually do a little sequential scanning of a page to illustrate just what I mean.
nice and freaky creature design!the alien on the couch is really cool and my fav!cheers
much radness! :]

really like your gallery and the rendering you do. the giger/beksinki influence is not my type but it just loosk great.
just a quick question those little thumbnails from the last page and this one.. what medium did you use. i know that you said its a aquarel sketchbook .. but you can never be sure what crazy things artists do to their sketchbooks
also youre not alone with your anger on ridley scott... i cant believe he is exposing the "secret" about the spacejockeys and everything in 3d.. stupid gimmick..

The TV watching alien is great!![]()
Nice boob study.... ahem, so water brush pens, you're missing out on the action.
There're only a few different brands and they perform pretty much the same as far as I know. Just fill 'em up with water and you're good to go.
And the poisonous, glittering argobabies curled up into the little sweet brownie balls that formed William B. Hand's sketchbook...
Keep it up!

Cameli, phizpietl, mayk, hunchback, witcrack, and surus - Thank you all!
Qikalain - Even though those influences aren't your bag, you still like my stuff that is influenced by them? Nice.As I think I mentioned in those posts, I am using watercolour pencils. You draw with them like a pencil, and then use a brush with a little water on it -- Presto! (AVOID PRISMACOLOR -- They Break When you sharpen them!) And you misunderstand my reaction to Ridley Scott... I am beyond thrilled about everything I've heard, including that they will be in 3D. AVATAR was sortuv hackneyed crap, but it was f-ing amazing. Any movie by R.S. in 3D will be flat-out phenomenal. My "anger" comes from a keen, almost animal, desire that I be designing the aliens for these films. If I'd had any notion that Ridley Scott would ever be working on ALIEN again, I would've long-ago begun a nightmarish portfolio of work specifically geared to force him into using me for the project.
[*Ahem*]
HunterKiller_ - Thanks about the boobs! So, yeah, I saw these brushes in the art store and, wondering if they were what you were talking about, I already nabbed one. It seems pretty good for what it is, but the fact that the tip remains constantly moist really limits what one can do with it, especially when trying to pull out form in the shadowed areas.
Vulgar` - "argobabies"?..."brownie balls"?
ThomasM - Haha -- thanks. They certain are declarative, aren't they? I cannot really take credit for them, of course, as they are directly copied from a Vargas painting. My main focus was actually the hand, but the boobs were a pleasant accompaniment.
TheGnoll - Hey, I got "DRAWING SCENERY:Landscapes & Seascapes" by Jack Hamm... Have given it a cursory flip-through and am very very excited about it, so expect to see this infiltrating my noodlings super soon.
So, here're a few things from of late...
Some more watercolour pencil experimenting, obviously, and two of the current DSG creature (PS). I'm quite pleased with how the 2nd one came out. The sb thumbs are enlarged somewhat, and are more about seeing what some differently coloured pencils look/feel like, plus some slight mixing.

Great new watercolor pencil drawin's!
The worm mouth flagella are soooooo yuck, makes my skin creep.
I have this weird love/hate relationship with creepy biological cellular parts, like the aforementioned flagella.
I sometimes have these bizarre fantasies (probably not a good word) about having unusual cellular growth on my own skin
and I would take perverse pleasure in picking at them... *shudder*
I wonder if you share similar feelings?
That worm is disgustingly cool. Thanks for posting!
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

HunterKiller_ - Thank you! I'm glad the whole worm-like flagella thing gives you the (pleasant?) heebie jeebies! As far are having daydreams of picking at some body-horror as guilty pleasure... No... No, I'm afraid I don't share this delight. But, maybe if I grew some unwelcome flagellum, then I'd be like "oh, I see what HunterKiller_ was on about -- This is so much fun to excise!"
ArtZealot - Thanks! Happy to oblige!
Sillirien - Thank you!Glad you feel that the second one looks more sold. I'm really pleased with that, as simple and sketchy as it is... I can easily imagine its mouth-parts moving around in rather disgusting, but specific, ways.
Here's a little something different from me. I can't say as I know exactly where it's going, as my original intent when it started off was to go even further on my wormy way, but then it turned into a portrait sketch directly based on a photo by the frigging outstanding Sebastiao Salgado. Notice that it's of human beings, and also that I'm exploring texture a bit differently. Getting the small child to look like a small child was unexpectedly tricky for me.

Delicious work William! So creepy and icky I can touch it =) Keep it up mate!
Btw, you still owe me an SB visit! =D

That worm is pretty cool, but are all the inner mouth parts soft or does it have some teeth as well? That alien fetus is just awesome.
youu know what i think of your stuff already, but all this enthusiasm in experimentation is just great to follow. The watercolor studies are really interesting in terms of edge control you seem to model form almost effortlessly with that medium. That portrait study too is something you don't usualy see around here, and looks really good too (very cool pics too btw-and your "digital brushwork" has a very personal look, even in this kind of study)-
last creature is looking very good as you already know-can't wait to see you do tons more!
