sweet pencil styles, man. You've got the comic book thing down for sure...
loved the batmans.
Just out of curiosity, do you ever do digital painting or illustrating or anything?
...but not the green you're thinking of...
Congrats on getting to page 2, seeing the Police live(!!!!) and drawing a great Darth Maul. I know you said you gotta set that one aside for a bit, but MAN! it would be so cool if you brought some of the shading on the cloak's exterior close to the darkness around the face. It looks like you're building the forms up with hatching, and if so I don't blame you for feeling worn out on that, but if you use the side of your lead instead of the point with one stroke you can define a plane instead of the many, many, strokes hatching with the lead's point takes. I agree with the others who wanna see the eyeball brain robot develop, and I really like the "Lord Darkness" sketch. I keep meaning to pop the LEGEND dvd in to do a pastel study myself.
Thanks for the inspiration.
Oh. One more thing. 80's rock does indeed rock. I have about 5 8-hour vhs tapes I dubbed from VH1 classic last time I had cable tv. Think I'll get a couple out and watch and draw...
My mistake, looking at Darth after this post I see you've got broad-strokes with the side of the pencil lead down fine. Never mind!

This is not so much an update as it is a shout-out. Much love and respect going out to 1st Lt. Logan Foster (Army), currently in Bahgdad and (sorry, don't know your rank, bro) Lance Bennett (Army), currently in-country training for return to and second tour in Iraq. You guys are the shit. All of you guys in the forces are. Happy 4th...it's only ever been because of you that we are with family and friends enjoying safety and bar-b-qing and shooting firecrackers and cracking open beautiful ice cold brews today. I pray you all are home safe and sound very, very soon. Kick some ass guys, HAMMER OF THE GODS!!![]()

So, as long as I'm typing...
Greenbobb: Thanks. I don't own a tablet, never even seen one, so "no" on the digital painting. I'm interested though. I want to do illustration for a living quite badly, I'd love to work in film. I've got some kick-ass ideas for a few of the 80's properties, of which Hollywood is currently poised to destroy. Curses, this is my childhood you're defiling Hollywood fools!! Perhaps one day, when I'm old and gray and nearly spent I'll have a shot...
Cory: Good to have you again. The Police were (Tony the tiger voiceover)GRRRRRRRRRREAT! So good, easily in the top three live shows I've ever seen. If anyone reading this ever gets the chance to see them...it was worth my ridiculously overpriced ticket and believe me, they had to work for it to convince me. I am pretty pleased with the latest Maul, I'm sure I'll come back to it. I always end up using one lead instead of the variety that I have, that's my problem. I don't know why, I need to get over that. I think that was all done with a F-lead, and lots of pressing hard when all I had to do was use some B-leads for deeper darks. I'm dumb like that. I do the side-of-the-lead thing though. And Tim Curry's makeup in Legend is mind boggling. A more imposing Lucifer has yet to be committed to film.
Aaaaaaaallllllllrighty, then! A real update will be soon forthcoming. I will develop robot brain, I will be original, I WILL!
Hey Piranha Clan,
Thanks for coming by my sb. Looks like you got your pencils down really good. Good job on a lot of those drawings. Think about maybe challenging yourself by experimenting with different mediums. By conquering those obstacles you'll be a art ninja master in no time.
Keep on rocking man. "Police" rule!!!
yeah! i wanna rock, man. great, if somewhat unknown song.
more new stuff, this s/b is dead!
peace!
Amen on your July4 shoutout, and I saw on second perusal of Maul that you absolutely understand using the side of the lead![]()
nice work on the darth maul piecenice details ... and you know, I do the same thing too .. losing interest after the fun part is done
keep up the hard work and don't lose sight of your dreams.
You´ve got a very good linework, but I would like to see more stuff from your imagination.Let us see what´s inside your mind!!
Trashy: Thank you. I do use prismacolors quite a bit too. I've just been busy with the leads lately because I'm focusing more on the drawing aspect and learning anatomy and hopefully loosening up the originality noodle. Maybe I'll do some color studies soon.
asoir: Dead? Umm...okay...
Cory: Hope your family had a good 4th.
OldNoobie: Thanks for the encouragement. I've been watching your thread. Great stuff.
Camara: Thanks. I'd like to see some more originality from me too. I'm going to get back to the creature sketches soon.

And now, more anatomy studies! BACK...by popular demand. *drumroll, crash cymbals* Thank you, thanks very much. I'll be here all week. Try the veal.
BTW- Just saw Transformers today. Mmeeeh...not bad, not good. They don't look right. At least it sounds like Optimus. Entertaining, I suppose.
hahaha i love your anatomy studies just like the rest of them. watch the satorius (is that what it's called?) though, the fingers that wrap around and go in between the ribs from the bottom of the shoulder blade, in your top picture they seem too bulky and make the rib cage look too tall. but then, i can't draw them well myself, so take what i say with a grain of salt. everything but that minor nitpick looks great, your anatomy studies really pop out.
hey hey.. anatomy and movie reviews! 8) post more!
(and didn't I PM you? thought I did... ) anyway, cheers![]()

Hey! Check out my blog here
Well done on that Darth Maul. I also love what you did with Snake-eyes and the foot studies on page 1. Keep at it.
those inks on darth maul are looking really nice, i hope you wind up taking it further, it could be a really good exercise in patience and rendering. keep it up man.

haha, sorry, i didnt see that all these posts are recent. for some reason i figured you hadnt posted anything in ages :/
great update btw
Great gobblets of giblet gravy, Batman! When I last checked, I had but two sb pages and now I suddenly have...4? WTH? Why is my 2nd page party now on page 3? Can somebody tell me what just happened? Are pages falling from the sky? (Yes, El Guapo...)
Thanks for the recent comments. Headed back on graveyards tommorrow night for 6 straight. Should be some new updates coming up plus individual replies. Sleepy time.
Hello there. Thanks for popping by my thread a while ago. Always in need of some good advice. Those hand studies are lookin good though on one one of them the nail of the thumb has wandered off somewhere (right next to the the may 7th mark. Will have to study the cartoon style of artist once I get rid of the cartoony look in my drawings. Will be back. Keep up with the good work.
Edit: Sorry I was only browsing through your first page. The anatomy since has improved a great deal.

Hey dude!
Good rhythm and flow among the parts in those last torso studies, like in the profile view the implied flow from the inner contour of the triceps to the outer edge of the forearm, and in the full view of the back the flow of the deltoids into the scapulae and trapezius, and the trapezeius at its base hugging the spine between the erectors of the spine. Both studies show a really sensitive understanding of the shoulder-girdle, at least the posterior view relationships of deltoid to scapula and trapezius, but I'm betting you probably understand the collar-bone-dominated anterior view of the shoulder-girdle as well.
The way the parts fit over the ribcage in the profile view, however, are more problematic. From the profile view the ribcage is egg-like in its roundness, where in full view from the back it's flat,( as you picture very well in your full back study) because from the spinal column the ribs extend out flattish until you hit slightly oblique lines running through the interior spines of the scapulae, where they start to curve out before winding around to meet the sternum for the upper 5 or so ribs, with the lower connecting to cartilage which in turn joins them to the sternum...I think. there's not an anatomy text within easy reach to check, and Kuno the great long-hair black cat is thoroughly crashed out on my lap, except for glaring balefully at any intimation I might actually rise to seek one of my books, so please, if I've misstated something somebody correct me...
Anyway, the point is the serratus anterior muscles, those muscles interlacing over the ribs, don't feel like they're wrapping around a roundish, egg-like form. they're reading more like three beads or stones stacked on top of each other. Also, through the middle of the figure you have this oblique line running from the inner borders of the serratus muscle up to the edge of lattissimus dorsi, where it comes from around the back of the rib-cage to tuck under the fore-arm and finally twist around to insert into the inner fore-arm, which undercuts the otherwise really sound sense of the lat' wrapping around the rib-cage you achieved.
I just noticed that the perspective you put the nipples in does give the feel of the ribcage's roundness as you move around to the front, so after bruising you I'll end on that positive note, and urge you again to keep up with those anatomy studies.
But on the other hand, don't neglect the Thundercats, been thinking of doing a version of some of 'em myself...
grenappels, old noobie:Thanks guys. You're both right. The Giovanni side view study is off a bit, I sort of rushed it. Maybe I'll just blame it on him. Yep. Giovanni's fault.
AmontilladoAg:You're abbreviated AA from now on, cause' I'm lazy and I don't want to type your full name anymore, mmmkayy?
Ex Nihio:Thanks, I will.
invinciblewombat:Thanks. Pencils, actually. Can't render, no hardware available
asoir:No prob, thanks.
placeboast:Thank you. Didn't follow the cartoon bit, but thanks just the same.
cory:That's a hell of a post. Thanks. Uuum...I can't take credit for the anatomy studies thus far, it's mostly out of Giovanni's book. I guess everybody mostly studies anatomy from a book though. I admit to rushed sloppiness on the side view. Like I said in an earlier post, I'm trying to work on speed and looseness as well as anatomy. Plus I was getting tired. A lot of these I do on graveyards to get through the long hours of the night. Maybe I'll post the actual Giovanni stuff for comparison. Also, do the Thundercats thing, yes. In the meantime...
...here's a couple of things:
Brom-inspired original character design. Original!!

Hey!
Thank you for taking time to post in my sb:
Woah, cool stuff here, you seem pretty confident in what you do. Both the comic style ones and the realistic ones. Nice to see you aswell study some anatomy, the last hand drawings look awsome.
Would like to see more work with color from you.
Keep it up!
nice updatelike the pose of the archer even though it seems a little awkward to me. Anyhow, it is probably too late, but if the bow and arrow was aimed more toward the viewer, I think it would have a nice effect since the eyes seems to be looking toward the viewer already.
I kinda like the tension in the current position of the bow and arrow versus the archer's focus. He's established his target, the viewer, and in a second when that bow snaps up that target is gonna be sorry...
Cool Brom-inspired piece too, you absorbed good lessons about composition and really bat-shit, scary figures from him!
oh poopmuffin. I really wanted to see the police. ah well.
I'm a huge fan of intricate line work and shanding, the wolvie and spidy works on June 18th are pretty awesome, and I also like how your shading came along with Darth Maul. Keep it up!
Izu:Thanks for stopping by. I'm going to try to start some color studies soon, I'm seriously lacking in the color theory arena.
Old Noobie and Cory:Old Noobie, thanks for your continued helpful observations, it's much appreciated.Cory's got me, though.
I like the attitude of Storm Shadow here, that tense moment just before the kill when he's locking in on target and poised to strike. But the target is not the viewer. Rather, the target is behind the viewer, you, and you're merely watching events unfold. Look at his eyes closely and you'll see that he's focused both slightly above and beyond the viewer's position. That's what I was intending, anyhow. And Brom is fantastic, one of my idols.
megadubitably:Thanks very much. *Mr. T voiceover* "I pity da' fool who doesn't go see the Police!"
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pretty tired last night, not as productive as I'd hoped but here it is. Ahnuld was freakin' huge:
More tommorrow.
NICE, good depiction of insanely CUT Ahnold, only crit that comes to mind is the solid dark on the back, looks like it was colored in with the edge of the lead, where maybe for rendering this form building up with hatch strokes from the point, drawn parallel to the form's short dimension, that is, across the form, not up and down, would've kept it from flattening out, or I dunno, maybe just a softer transition to that dense black from the lighter shadow on the lat's edge and the bottom of the sacpula above it.
Thanks for setting me straight on Storm-shadow's eyes, I totally see it now.
I wanted to add I thought your source for the back views might be Giovanni Civardi, but your sensitivity is evident. They aren't deadline copies. even if you didn't necessarily consciously think your way through understanding how form is suggested by placement of the lines and their relative weights, you still intuited these issues very well. I find that sensitivity in most of your reffed sletches. It's good to see, although I gotta agree some work from life will develop your sensitivity in amazing ways. y'know, the guy mentoring me I've mentioned in my thread, at least 3 times a week out of the blue he'll shout at me "WHEN ARE WE GONNA SEE SOME PICTURES OF THAT BABY? AND I DON'T MEAN PHOTOGRAPHS!" This is his way of reminding me to make my drawing part of my life, so...
"WHEN ARE WE GONNA SEE SOME PICTURES OF MADISON? AND I DON'T MEAN PHOTOGRAPHS!"
Life study isn't only meaningful when it's a nude posing in a classroom, quite the contrary...
Cory: I have a sketch of Madison on my 1st page...the baby picture. Where's Allan, I ask you? Heh,heh...you're right, it's definately time for a new portrait of her. She is my favorite person in the whole world, after all! And your comment above was right on, as usual. I don't really like my style of cross-hatching, it's far less polished than many of the brilliant artists around here. I have a lot to learn about line placement and direction in relation to describing form. I guess I disconnect too much when I'm drawing and haven't really approached it academically enough. I think after reading your post I tried to do so last night and here are the results so far...

the green goblin and ghost rider are amazing and i like the thunder cat pics aswell good work
