    Denton - 1st page

The first page from a short comicbook story.
Everything done by myself, I can see alot of weak areas, but still happy to have done something for myself.

The remaining pages can be viewed at www.theblackgates.com.

Plus some other work that I finally got around to tidying up, adding colour etc.

And a 'car'toon that I finally finished. A 1967 Ford Mustang this time.

    Hercules and guests

Here are a couple of pages from my sketchbook, that I added basic digital colours too. They were done in pencil, and pen and coloured pencil.

The first one is Steve Reeves as Hercules
and the next is a mixed page, trying different styles.

Very nice work man, I had a blast browsing through the pages, looking at your different styles. I'm curious though, what's your goal? As in, are you looking to improve your realism, or are you satisfied with your current style?

Looking through what you have, I will say it's hard to decipher which images are disproportional, and which ones are intentionally exaggerated, because of the style that you have. I did notice, however, that almost everyone you've posted is well built. If you're ever looking for a challenge, I'd say try drawing large/obese people. You learn a lot about weight distribution and how the body interacts with gravity that way. Gesture drawings and life studies are a great way to tackle that, but this is all optional. You already have a pretty good style developed here.

OhaxNuv - Thanks for the good crit.

A Goal.... at the moment not really sure. Just drawing to stay 'in tune'. I do illustration on the side and get occasional jobs in various different mediums. Right now I'm prepping a Harley Tanks and Fenders for airbrushing. A week or so ago I drew some simple black linework.

Yeah, I have a visual preference for fit people. I really need to draw alot more obese/skinny/normal/female people. If you have an idea for a basic challenge send it through.

Here are same designs for a Harley that I'm about to airbrush. The panel prep is currently underway.
The client wanted a cobra/snake theme.
He has basically gone for the first design, with the head on the front fender from the last design.
I'll post up more pics as I go.

strong comic book style. you need to pay attention to proportion/anatomy in some of your figures, though, regardless of style.

Nice style! I like your ink work and your sense of structure is accurate, it is comic book-ish but i'm pretty sure if you wanted you could do anything else. loosen up a bit hehe

I missed out a mask on the Fist of Justice pic, so did a quick touchup in photoshop. This pic will be getting some colours added and sent to the publishers.

** Just added the colours. Basic Cel shade type style.

Love the designs for the harley! Can't wait to see that done.

Conan and Hercules are hilarious. Your style works really well for this look.

I'd love to see you work loosely and do some gestures. =).

Another update in the same day.... WTF!

Here are my finished pics of the Harley Davidson 'Cobra' themed bike that I have recently airbrushed. About 90% freehand airbrushing.

These pics are taken before the extremely shiny (and bad for photos) clearcoat was applied. The owner said he will get me some pics of the bike when it's put back together. The back fender was just a snakeskin pattern like on the front one.

Bidi- Thanks for the post. I admit haven't done alot of realistic stuff lately - just have fun with the bolder stuff. If I can remember any more realistic stuff I'll post it up.

The website was designed by one of my buddys, thats what he does. He made it so I can update virtually the whole site myself (easily too).

    Another couple of updates.
Both are airbrushed pieces of board.
One of them is the pic I use for my avatar, but I got bored and added to it.
The other is a failed attempt at a batman/Superman/Joker pic. I really don't like the Superman (and that's the third repaint).

    Hey,
I like shading on your sketchbook pages, especially the last ones. It's nice to see that your pushing your own cartoon/comic style further and further. I'd love to see some more gesture poses, they can help you creating even more dynamic and balanced poses when your working from imagination.
As for the superman in the airbrush painting: I think the nose should be more visible, it appears now to be a tiny nose, while it would be more fitting if he had a bigger nose. Perhaps it can help if the side of the nose had the same value as the highlight on the chin or the side of his face.

    Keep it up!

Nicky S - Thanks for the comments, especially regarding the airbrushed Superman. I may attempt one last repaint after all.

    Anyway here's some new stuff.
Some Batman, some Popbot, some Hammer comic love.
And various other made up stuff. All pens, pencil and markers.
