I like the clean, simplified cartoons a ton, they look really solid. Thor looks great too.

Other faces-- looks like you have a tendency to draw "almond eyes," even in 3/4 view, but it could be intentional.

Do you do much any life-drawing? It looks like most of your drawings are built from body anatomy and head studies, and that can make your faces look less unique. The characters don't have many features on the surface that set them apart.

eminkey2003 - No, I haven't done lifedrawing for at least 6 or more years, It obviously shows. Plus, more than half of these faces/bodies etc are just made up (no reference at all). I need to start using more reference and real life again.

Can you explain what you mean by "almond eyes"?

    Long time, no post.
Some basic work here. I have coloured these pages (not drawn, just colours) for a fellow artist whose cartoons I've become addicted too.

See more of his stuff at his blog, http://www.mummy-boy.blogspot.com

Plus, a quick and dodgy redesign of HeMan, sort of along Hulk lines. Prince Adam puts on the glove and increases in strength and size to become HeMan.

I'm going to do the "be completely honest thing" here.

I feel like your inkings are held back by a seemingly lack of variation in line width. They all felt very formulaic and predictable- nothing really stood above the others.

Then I saw your pencils colored in PS... you might be on to something here. If you enjoy that you should look into it more. A lot more.

You should get yourself a Pentel brush pen, that's what you should do. It's a pen... but it's a brush. Amazing idea, I think.

i love those stylized animals on the first page
The pencils to color look really good to.
The only thing is something gets lost in your inking. They don't scream out as much to me.

Quigleyer - Thanks. Honest is good. Don't worry the inks comment is not new to me, but I'm addicted to just sketching in pens. I do need to grab a brush or brush pen.

MnM - Thanks. I need to draw more nature ( I still actually like those pics, a rear thing for me). Inking comment - I agree.

I'm really digging the line weight variation, especially in the first page's skull... it feels a lot more solid than the ones from before

nice work on the winged girl, as well, although I feel like the white shading for the background behind the wings really kills it with the jumble of different direction strokes. also personally, i felt like the wings should've been a lot bigger, more open, and more dramatic, as the hair of the girl is all whoosh upwards, so i expected there to be like... dramatic wings in the wind

    or something like that

but keep pushing that line weight variation! it's coming together

Thanks for taking a look at my sketchbook~ ! Your bodies and figures are among the best I've ever seen. Your style screams extremity man ! you obviously have awesome experiences with anatomy, what I'd like to see is more evolution with your shading, like with the wing girl in your latest post, that's awesome shading to the max right there. I don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but your lineart and your shading kinda clash with me. It's still awesome but like with the 2 men in post 153, it just doesn't strike me like the winged girl does. Anyway. I'm not sure if I helped but I like your work, and keep doing what you do.
callouses on the fingers. If you don’t have any, you’re not drawing enough.

Decepticon217 - Thanks for the nice words.

RandAlThor - Yeah, that would have got my interest too. Just brought myself a few brushes, so I can play with the inks again (been along time).

Talkingjello - Thanks for the kind words. ALot of people have mentioned they like my pencils more, but pens are just so addictive to me (love the ink).
And yes it helped - helped me feel good about some of my work, so thanks alot!

You have a couple of pieces in there that I really like..the first pic...hawk/falcon...there is an ocher toned ink drawing with the mass of muscled men...and your devil girl ...the wings don't sit too well with me but the body especially the face and lighting/ heightening with white work well...
    nice book..unique comic style...
and how cool is the custom trike paint...
    keep at at...

I shouldn't have said "almond eyes." Something just looks weird about them. Sometimes they're too big, or too wide, or they look too wide to be in 3/4 view with the rest of the face, or one eye looks much smaller. It might be that on some of the eyes, the top of the eye looks too similar to the bottom.

I picked out some of the ones that bugged me, and threw in some photos for comparison. Sorry to be so picky-- I think it's something that'll work out with practice.

JailHouseRock - Thanks man. The skull freaks you out? I love skulls. Anyway, look forward to seeing some kickarse stuff from you soon.

Your art is very stylized and if you were going for realism, it is the last thing that comes to mind when I look at your drawings.
I'd say take some drawing classes. Draw real life portraits. Cause your faces and overall EVERYTHING needs A LOT of work.
And if you say that my piece is "Ok" (backed up by critisism) then I don't even know what to say about your stuff. Cause there is hardly anything here and on your website that could top my piece. Of course in terms of realism. In terms of cartoons and kiddy drawings you take the cake.
And troll some more while you're at it.

    Cheers

Another update in the same day.

Here's some panels (in sequence) and a full page, from a comic that I'm attempting to put together. These pages will also have some graytones added. Very rusty and not too pleased with it so far. But I'm trying to give myself a deadline, so some areas may suffer.

C & C really appreciated on this stuff.

    Airbrushing Demo

Here's some work from the last weekend. I was asked to do a live demo of airbrushing.

I showed up and there was no sheltered area (as promised), no power supply (ready), and the car hadn't even been cleaned. Bird shit and more all over the bonnet. So far, a bad start.

Anyway, here is the result after approx 4 1/2 hours of freehand airbrushing (huge rush job). Considering I have never painted a big cat, I was actually quite happy with the outcome.

    Airbrushed Car - WIP

Here is my wifes old Ford Escort Station Wagon.
It's getting a subtle paint scheme, so we can use it as a promo vehicle.
It has a cuter side for her, and a slightly darker passengers side for me.
Anyway here are the starting steps with the airbrushing. Will do all the black and white first and then lay over some kandy (transparent) colours.

I'll update the thread with new pics asap.
