All right. What do you want to draw in the drawing group? AestheticMachine is apparently in Los Angeles and I am in Pasadena more often that not. Maybe something can be worked out here.

    Wow.

I knew you when you weren't confident about anything. I knew you when you were just sitting around dreaming of doing great things, and now that you are - on a regular basis - you amaze the stuffing out of me.

I have drive, I have - had? - determination, but I never had the sheer creative curiosity that you have now. You've grown so much in such a relatively short time, it's dizzying.

Anything you do now that looks rough, that looks incomplete, that looks... unfulfilled in your pursuit to find your true self, understand that even at these stages your work is incredibly strong. Much better than many others' works, those who play it safe, and are trying to operate on the level of someone else's standard of quality.

There are those who are amazing illustrators, who are able to do the most wonderfully polished-looking work. We all marvel at them, their talent, their craft. But so very many of these amazingly talented people can only do the polish. So very many of these people just can't sell their work. Their characters just don't LIVE in their works.

    Yours does.

All the time, I see you're able to portray sexiness, power, subtlety, rage and beauty. I believe these are the things that make for a true artist. Many people can become a technician. It takes a visionary to make his work live.

Your work lives and breathes. All the shortcomings of anatomy, perspective & whatnot will get stronger through time. But the foundation of your work - the soul of your work - is the very thing that will help build you and your career in your life.

This piece is powerful! The acting is excellent. It really sells the concept of what Frankenstein is or could be.

    Damn nice work.

    been busy lately.
went to mexico for christmas, had an amazing time.
did my drink and draw there, i even inspired some people at the hotel who joined me and sketched for a couple hours. random people drawing at the bar with me and getting drunk. good times.
after that i got home, relaxed for a bit, planned my trip to dallas for new years... the day before i left i almost broke my ankle. had to go home on crutches! couldn't walk for 2 freakin weeks. didn't feel like drawing...
but im back in the saddle again, sketching away. but nothing i can post right now, its all for my personal top secret project. soooo yeah...

anyway, if you take a look at my last batch you can see a tattoo design idea starting to form of a skull with horns. well i took that idea, reversed it and progressed quite a bit.
the horns still need a lot of clean up but i think the design is close.

    DirtSyndicate,

I'm very impressed by these sketches you're doing, obviously with a brand new tool of some sort. It looks like you're working with a calligraphic dip pen? Or some kind of special ink pen of some sort? I'd sure love it if you would tell us what it is, and maybe include a link as to where we all can buy such a tool. I know I'd buy a lot of them!

Your tattoo design is very striking. It looks like you've done it with traditional tools, and not the really great tool you used on your previous drink 'n' draw sketches. I think I'd really like to see you do tattoo designs with that new tool, to maybe take the already strong design you've done, and make it even more striking by using that angled tip you've been using.

I really hate you, but only in a jealous, why-can't-I-be-this-good kind of way.

yeah, its a new toy to play with, i love it. called a parallel pen.
i actually learned about them through Jason Shawn Alexander. He showed up at one of the drink and draw sessions about a month ago and i borrowed one of his to do this sketch:
    http://www.thedirtsyndicate.org/Drin.../111809/06.jpg
and just above that sketch is actually a quick caricature of him. haha

you can find the pens and extra ink cartridges on amazon:

The last one is good. It takes some time getting used to the wacom, but in the end you'll love it. The sketching might not look like what you can do with a pencil, but you can always tweak the settings in PS to get that style you need. Also, I personally think wacoms are used mostly for finished art. Like the level Mike above, Bumskee, and Trevor are at. It just takes time.

Keep rockin man. See ya around.

sorry i haven't updated in awhile guys. its been a rough year so far... lots of things have gone wrong lately. haha

anyway, today i did a couple sketches.
they're really just brush experiments. i found some cool brushes online, some random website, just started playing around with em. i was pretty happy with the results even though they relied heavily on serendipity. if i can just harness the randomness and focus it into a specific goal... i think i might be onto something.

    anyway, here they are:

Those brushes man are pretty damn nice. Like the randomness of it actually. Maybe we can harness that power for the good of concept art? Maybe? No? Okay, well, keep messing around and I'm sure you'll find something amazing. Keep posting and rockin guy.
