    Great topic, thanks!

I'm new here and still finding my feet, but I'll do my best to get an entry together that doesn't make me feel too inadequate.

Update - finally had time to make a start. Critique welcome, I don't bite.

Update2 - final updated. I was going to put Lyra on his back and clean everything up, but I have a lot to do before Monday.
I've enjoyed this a lot though, will definitely enter these as much as I can from now on.

    Wip it Real Good...

I don't normally post WIP's but I'm heading to Costa Rica for a few days and don't know if I'll have a chance to finish or not so I thought I'd share the prog. I did buy Golden Compass for the trip - never read it before!

Pizza Explosion: Awesome! Cracked me up!

Great WIP's so far! Good luck everyone!

So I read the first book, not impressed, I'm ticked off that it was nothing more than an introduction to the actual story, which is a waste of my time to read a several hundred page intro. I read the cliff notes on wikipedia just now, it's basically an inferior version of Harlan Ellison's short story"The Deathbird". Surprisingly sky iron is colored rust red, it's made from metal found in meteorites apparently. Don't see no reason why anyone shouldn't muck around with the color anyway, that way's more interesting.

Well, I will give this a try. This is my first attempt at this so I hope I do OK. Anyways, here is my WIP. Enjoy

UPDATED: Now in INKS! Now...to color or not to color...that is the question. I am always cautious when it comes to color...it is VERY dangerous!

Here is my final. I don't have time to finish the colors I am working on so this will have to be it. Added more fur shading and the flattest background EVER! I enjoyed doing this though, I think I will do more...make some good portfolio pieces!

Rogzilla: outstanding design, reminiscent of underlying musculature. Reminds me of Prince Vlad's armor in the beginning of Francis Ford Copola's Dracula. I look forward to seeing this one finished.

THAT'S WHERE IT CAME FROM! *smack* I knew I had seen something like that before! Really, I just wanted to focus on the "soul" aspect so I connect the armor more to the anatomy.

Rogzilla (again): I think you nailed it. I haven't read the books, but from what I've gleaned from the concept, the armor is supposed to be more than a prop, but an integrated part of the character itself, and I think you really captured that. Sometimes I don't know where the armor stops and the bear begins.

    Iorek Byrnison

Alighty here we go... First off thanks, Caekypigdog for clearing that up, I was reading the wiki stuff and was still a bit lost, alot of intricate concepts to grasp. Also... <slaps forehead> sky armour is rust red? noooo, at least I'm not to far in.

I made my Iorek alot more humanoid than what seems to be in most stuff I see, but Im pretty much running with it, see how it will pan out.

Okay, a bit further along, I changes his armour up a bit, I was originally gonna do a pretty traditional breastplate but then thought waht the hell, the setting allows for play so I went with something a touch more modern for him, also adding a helmet atm.
One other thing, Im thinking of making his scale coat thingy a similar red, as shown, anyone think it might be too much red? I think it borders on too much but also ties it together more than just plain metal.

Ok, final done, and Im not cutting super fine like normal! whooo! I tried a new technique for the mail coat so reasonably happy but could take a bit of perfecting before I decently grasp it. anyways.

Chuck Wadey: Wow, nice colour job, I really dig it dude!
Cakeypidog: Another solid entry man! looks like it could be a cover great layout,
Jakkas: Nice dude, I really like the action sketch in the background too!
Krepedos: nice work dude, good pic.
    Cheers guys

Nice work so far everyone I'm working on something mysely at the moment. I've read the books and just so people know his HELMET IS an IMPORTANT part of his armour it gets I guess what you could call a scene to its self in the third book so I would try to add it if I were you and he NEVER USES WEAPONS just his bare paws, his jaws and his absolute brute strength.

armando, you're a reader! And in only a few days, too. I almost couldn't finish EON in time for a 3-month challenge.

ikuru, vigostar - I'll pretend your talking about Chuck,Mate. Once he drops in I'll be really confused.

mrgrumble - polar bears are usually white, unless you spatter blood all over'em.

MarkWinters - that much saturation is a little dangerous.

    cakeypigdog - I like.

D-BAKER - Could use another 10% on tighter details and edges to be completely killer. It'd be nice to kick in some really black shadow detials around the focus (head/neck).

Red_D - There's a posting FAQ somewhere in the forum. The basic idea is, upload to a Photobucket.com account and link it into your message.

Well, red sky armor certainly is a suprise but I think I can cope with it. If these bears are smiths, I'm going to assume they can use metalworking tools - even if they don't use weapons.
