I LURV your self portraits (especially the one with the fireball). The designs are looking great too, and the characters are top notch.

Good work once again dude. I like how the characters are going, your thumbnails have a lot of potential in them. They definately remind of some of the work in the Skillful Huntsman, and that's not a bad thing at all. Those guys are visual geniuses. I'm excited to see where your team goes with the Team Chow.

Lookin to see some more environments from you man, what you've done with them so far looks pretty good.

I've been gone from here for a while... shame on me.
Just wanted to say I really love all the directions you're taking. Great horde of enviro work, and character designs. It amazes me how you can put so much creativity and uniqueness in one page.
My favorite self portrait is also of the last one you posted. Nice work. Keep it up, Eric.

Long time it's been indeed, how's life been treating you?
Nice sp by the way, I love the way you block everything in and give it a nice painterly feel. Maybe the values could have been pushed a bit further, but I don't know how the light and shadows were.

    Keep it up man!

Fumble: Haha, yeah....it's called "holding one eye closed while you look to try and see just how it actually works and then imagining them both closed." So the eyes are probably not completely accurate if we're talking about relaxed closed eyes, but they are observed.

    jatherip: Thanks for stopping by!

Nicky S: Life has been making me busy and making me also kind of disappointed with how little I've been updating. Yeah...values I think were kind of muted on this one, sadly, but that's just the way it is. Thanks for stopping by!

BlackDelphin: Yeah...these are usually pretty autobiographical in a sense. I can look back at them and see each one as a kind of journal entry.

hala: Yep, that's why I haven't been posting. I'm going to change that though, I think. Thanks!

AztcFireFlower: I hope to keep them coming!

    ------
I've got to just commit to posting on this thing more...just right now, that's not happening. I'll get better at that, I'm sure. I don't want to neglect as much as I did last year, I miss the feedback I get here.

Here are some assorted things from recent weeks. More to come...definitely more to come.

    Hey,

Nice update, I like the sp's as usual. ^^ Are you going after a goal set to do an amount of gesture sketches? It would explain why you numbered them, a good idea though.
A lot of the gestures contain a lot of movement, so that's really nice, I'd love to see you doing some character designs again, if you have the time of course. ^^

And life's going to get a lot busier for me tomorrow, 'cause school is starting again, I'm gonna feel your pain man.

    Keep on rocking!

AmbientChroma: haha, actually, I think it's the first time I've heard that...

NickyS: I just really wanted to do a good amount of gestures and 50 seemed like a good number. I want to start a routine of doing these but I've just been unable for some reason...committing to anything right now just seems hard. It's been frustrating lately, but I hope to break through and resume working a lot. Thanks for stopping by again!

GweNdZ: Thanks dude, I appreciate you taking a look!

Ugh...this feels soooo lame, but I told myself I'd update today. I just have nothing really to show...just one of my recent SP's and a couple of random sketches...I've got to do better than this!

Man, I'm sorry to hear you're having a hard time, whatever the reason is that is holding you back, it can be difficult, animation school sucks out most of my spare time during the year, combined with learning to paint and draw better, it leaves almost no time for anything else, so it resulted in having to quit a lot of things I like, like playing in a rock band, reading books, even my relationship with my girlfriend ended this week, after 4 years.
But if my visit and my comment to your sketchbook has even for the slightest way had a positive effect on your mood or motivation for some more drawings, I'll be happy to continue asking for more awesomeness!
And I still like the sketches, one thing you need to watch out for is the proportion of the legs compared to the rest of the body, but that's just something that can be easily compensated by paying some attention to it while sketching.

Hang in there man, u b awesome!

Cool pencils Eric! The multi-limbed badass smoking dinosaur made me laugh out loud, very appealing design and great execution. The fat nobleman character is pretty cool as well, good structure.

And don't be too hard on yourself with the slump in art production. The most valuable thing to get out of that, at least that I've found is to take a step back, look at where you have come from, and then turn around and look into the future. You can keep improving and going places, and it can be frustrating if issues with time are stopping you from creating, or if you just don't feel that energy to bang out a bunch of studies. I'd recommend taking a day off without any drawing, concentrate on something else... come back with fresh eyes the next day and a revitalized mindset, ready to start a new period in your art career. Best advice a newbie like me can give.

    Keep up the awesomeness amigo.

Hi man, sorry to hear you're having trouble lately focusing. Maybe you shouldn't force yourself and give yourself a little break from drawing? Nothing major, just a couple of weeks, if even that. I've seen many here, including myself, going through a similar phase and then it's simply necessary to zone out a bit and give the pencil a break. It sometimes seems as if the mind needs to work things out and just let it and let go in the meantime. I promise your zest will come again, so don't worry about that!

Your latest pieces look solid to me, your SPs are constantly improving. So you're definitely not degenerating or something like it! These are all looking very good.

    mischevious: Thanks, bro!

GweNdZ: I had fun with him.

NickyS: Thanks for critiquing me, man. It means a lot that you stop by and take a look even when there isn't much going on! Sorry to hear about your relationship troubles. While it may suck in the moment, you'll be better for it in the future I'm sure. Just another of life's trials, I guess...thanks for the support!

Connor: You're hardly a newbie man, man. And those are wise words. I will try to put a little more thought in my art then...I should really consider more of where I am, where I've been, and where I want to be.

AsaB: Yeah it seems like everyone's kind of kicking themselves all of a sudden...after school started back I just sunk right into a funk.

    miycko: Thanks!

Well guys, here's just a bunch of sketches. Self portraits and the like. A select few of the recent ones. I'll be throwing some of my work from this semester so far up here. Oil painting, whoo! Artist studies, whoo!

For now this is what I've got.

Oh and this one is a little bit of a momentous occasion. While it may not look like much. This 9"x12" completely un-archival oil painting on cardboard that I did in 1-2 hrs. in studio tonight is my 300th consecutive daily self portrait. Behind it is a still life I'm working on presently. Thanks for all of your guys' comments and love. I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am now if it wasn't for all of you, and that's the honest truth.

Congrats on your 300th sp! That's very nice, and it has paid off putting your time in it. The oil painting looks nice, especially for being done in only an hour to two hours tops.

What are you studying by the way? (in school )

    Keep it up man!
