Hey guys, I've been lurking around concept art for the past year or so and I finally got up the courage to post some of my own work. I'm a Freshman at CCAD and I've got some old stuff from this past year that stretches all the way up to now. Plus I'm trying to get in the habit of sketching at least once or twice a day. So look out for frequent updates. I definitely want to go into concept art as a field, its exactly what I want to turn into a career.
So I'm really just asking for some honest criticism, be as mean and critical and helpful as possible. Tell me what you hate and if you love something tell me why. ANY criticism will be very appreciated and very helpful. Thanks!

Sorry the pics are so big. In future posts I will make them a more reasonable size. But all the sketches up now are from quite a while ago. The more recent ones are on their way. These are all before college but I'd still like to hear some criticism on them. w00t!

More Stuff. Let me explain a little about these before you all think I'm screwy. These are some quick sketches from late last year. Me and a bunch of buddies got together and threw out a theme, and then we'd all draw from that theme without shoing anyone 'til we were done.

The First one is a RapeBOT 3000. Pretty Self explanetory. On the next page the idea was to pick a season, and then draw the king or queen of that season. Mine was winter. And at the bottom of that page the idea was to take a normal household object (fireplace) and turn it into a monster. For the one below that we just picked two random words out of the dictionary and drew off of them. The words were "primitive" and "otherworld". The one below that was the idea of drawing a steryotype. Mine was russian. Under that the idea was superheros, but older. Thus! Robin going through puberty (I know its already happened in the comics) and the Flash.... but older... and with a walker. And underneath that is a life drawing from class. I wanted to see how far I could get with the two microns I had in my pocket at the time. The model kept falling asleep...
The last one was an idea I had for creating a crew of pirates. The lady was going to be the captain. I might still get around to finishing that little project.

Hey, nice start you've got going. Looks to me like your females need work. Keep posting even when you don't get comments - best way to get them is to help other people out in their books. Keep up the good work.

Ok, so its been awhile. I bought a new "Earthbound" sketchbook with some toned paper. And I've been studying the Andrew Loomis book "Figure Drawing for all its worth". I downloaded all of them and plan to study and copy the hell out of them. The two boxers fighting and the girl with the gun are still WIP's, so any critiques would be much appreciated. I seem to have problems with female anatomy. Anybody know any books and or websites where I can get some good reference?

A freshman at CCAD eh. I just got my acceptance letter today so Ill be joining you at CCAD this fall. Youve got some great pieces here. I really like the figure studies and life drawings, and also the self portrait. WOndering if you come by my sketchbook to check some of my stuff out. Keep up the good work.

Much improvement since my last visit. Keep working those life drawings, thats the best way to improve. Bridgeman is good for male and female anatomy. Also check out Civardi. For gestures try looking more and making selective strokes - try to get the lines accurate the first time - map out proportions roughly beforehand if you need with spheres or blocks. Yeah, uh, keep up the good work.

So... I really haven't had much time to update this between all the final projects I'm working on for school. But I'm really excited about finishing freshman year and finally starting my major. Illustration of course, maybe minoring in Media Studies. But anyways, here are some older digital stuff of mine . More will come in time, I have the whole friggin' summer to sketch my heart out. The first one is just something I did for fun two years ago. One of my first digital attempts. The Second is my self portrait for CCAD, back when I had long ass hippy hair and glasses. The third is my own lil' tribute to Ash Williams from the EVIL DEAD trilogy (I Love those movies).

Here's something a lil more recent. Its the second panel to my Color Concept final series. The series all about the battle of Thermopylae. (The other panels are much more historically accurate. They don't all revolve around 300. I realize its a WIP, but any helpful criticism would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That last batch you posted really showed some improvement! You definatly feel more comfortable working in color than in tones and b&W (where i am the opposite). Keep doing those life studies figures and anything else. You'll se it really help you out with the cartooning and other work. Great job and keep posting!!!

The Gorilla and the Self-Portrait (ahem) were speed paints for fun. Which I should really do more of. Honestly I got into the habit of using Illustrator as my "quick-fix program" and have officially burnt myself out on using it. Sadly I don't have a beard like that..... but I can lie and say its my great grandfather Admiral Archibald Havens, of her Majesty's royal navy.... Anyways yea, Latest work follows, still a WIP until I finish those pesky robo-hands

thats a very very good start,i think u just need to be more patient with ur sketches so that u aquire the volume building technique...hope to see much more
