Wow. You kick bootee. Paintings are super. Really wish I could zap over there in a transporter. Erik is an excellent talented teacher. I definitely enjoyed my 2 semesters there.
Your drawing update has been a wonderful lesson in pattern & design. Beautiful stuff! Esp. the looser tonal studies. 20 minutes!!!! Daaaaaayyyyyammmm.
But, well, my current mentor Mr. Orbik is a Master. I hope to catch up, soon.

You really are acquiring some serious skills over at Watts. Killer thread!

Wow thank you guys for all the support and encouragement

    Rushlord : Thank you!
RBeek : Haha yea dude the attachment manager is pretty annoying. I wish there was a way to do multiple attachments at once. Thank you for the compliments! Maybe you should try doing a lot of life drawing? IMO it's what has helped me the most with figure drawing.
    Tigermilk : Haha cheers mate!
    Zord : Thanks bro
PaperX : XD Nah...you're awesome! Thanks for all the support and help all these years
bumskee : bumskee that means a lot coming from you! I'm the one that cries every time you update. Seriously, sometimes I wonder how you're so good haha. Your latest work is mind-blowing!
    MatejaPetkovic : Thank you
Mydrako : Thanks Neo . When are we gonna go life drawing? XD
shamandalie : haha! Nah i don't think I'll actually ever "retire" from doing art
    xinranliu : Thanks!
Kambei Shimada : Thank you...I will
Frank Gressie : Thank you Frank! Just took a look at your sketchbook. Beautiful work
slyve : XD haha not as much improvement as I would have liked...I was stuck in the army for 2 years before this so I couldn't get much drawing done at all(mandatory service in singapore)
Blue Severin : Haha thanks man. Art really is like a drug haha! Can't get enough of it.
Icecold : Hey thanks dude! Yea I agree about the plastic looking thing, you're right. The core shadows do look kinda generic and without the shadows there's too much contrast.
Huey Yeng : XD Hey man! Good luck with your TAD application and freelance jobs
    scholz : Thanks!
    mariusz : Thank you...I will!
    Cameronator : Thank you!
Gildorek : Thank you so much!
sketcheth : Thanks bro . Likewise your stuff has been getting really, really good! Also, where have you been hiding?! O_O
    kingkostas : Thanks man!
    Verehin :
    PieMonster : Thank you!
Janaschi : Jana! Thank you so much! and sorry for being such a fanboy
algenpfleger : O_O I think the same thing every time you update! You keep kicking everyone's butts! O and I listened to the livestream Jana and you had with Dave. Inspirational stuff...really. I was amazed with how insightful and knowledgeable you are! Good luck with your TAD scholarship application...I'm sure you'll get it!
mike butkus : Thanks Mike! Your work is amazing! Thanks for commenting
knoxie : Hey Carl Good luck with your application to TAD too mate!
shyamshriram : haha yes....very handsome Also you gotta teach me that watercolour thing you do sometime it's AWESOOOOME!!
Marian Rowling : Thank you Glad I could help in some way!
Hideyoshi : heheh thanks! Sometimes I feel like I really don't know how to use it :/ haha
Sharkcellar : haha I feel the same way a lot on here. Too many crazy incredible artists...
    ccp85 : Thanks Carlos
zerdron : Thanks! Hmm female anatomy...the best way is doing life drawings! Also the usual, photo studies, books (Hogarth/Loomis/Bridgman/Vanderpoel/Stephen Rogers Peck-this is probably my fave) good luck!
    Kim_bot : Thank you!
Jasper_ : Hey no worries! Glad they could help...though you should look more at the work of pros haha
    Erik Gist
    Glen Orbik
AztcFireFlowers SB < She's got some really beautiful quicksketches
    Kevin Chen's demos
DenaeW : Hey Thank you! I really like the work you've got in your sketchbook
AztcFireFlower : Haha thank you so much! I don't think I'm deserving of such compliments though haha. (Everyone should go to your sketchbook for that) Yes Erik is an amazing teacher. They all are! Unfortunately I'm not studying there anymore. I'm actually Singaporean so I flew in on a tourist visa to study there for 2 terms. I wish unaccredited schools could provide student visas haha. When did you study over at Watts?...and yes Mr.Orbik is a master. I hope I'll have the opportunity to study with him too in the future..who knows XD
    (Psst-everyone visit her SB...it's aweesssooome)

So for the past few weeks I've been working on this stuff for my portfolio application to TAD. I'm hoping to get a scholarship though there's way too many good artists applying haha. Good luck to anyone else who's applied for the scholarships!

I'm kinda disappointed with my work though...it shows my weaknesses more than anything! (My imagination stuff sucks, gotta learn my perspective and really brush up on composition). I've still got tonnes to learn.

So for the next couple weeks I'm gonna hammer perspective into my head. I bought a 2nd hand drafting table off ebay for cheaaap(A T-squares gonna cost me more than the table o_O) and I'm gonna swap my bed out for it haha.

Done from life...really messed up the perspective on these...probably because I placed them right next to me when i did it so whenever I looked from the top to bottom my perspectives changed haha. Also it took waay too long...

    hey man,
i love the last update, thanks for sharing it,
i don't think you should feel like that about your work, there's always room for more improvement but feeling like your work is bad is a dangerous trap.
If your imagination work isn't that good just practice it more. you can always tell what's wrong in your work so if you feel like the stuff from imagination doesn't do all that well just do some more.
draw something from reff to day and try drawing it again from imagination tomorrow. and stop worrying. just draw.

    hope it helps,
    cheers!

You kill me with every update, but there's a positive there. I guess i'm immortal !
You know you have a huge fan in me hehe, and i still owe you that beer, so if i ever visit Singapore i'll make sure to let you know.

As an advice, try to avoid making your characters apear to levitate, place atleast one line representing the ground to make their stance solid, and later you can erase that guide.

Nice update !... I like the still lifes. The willow branch is nicely rendered. Your self portrait is great. Okie doesnt totally look like u but the construction and rendering is super. I feel the reflected light at the nose might be slightly overstated but that might just be my own inclination. Love the way u render the hair!! I see the influence of your teacher at watts

Sickbrush : hey thanks man...you're absolutely right! Thanks for the advice.

    RBeek : heheh thanks!

Mydrako : Thanks dude! Life drawing next week! O_O
Cam Sykes : Yup! Gotta keep improviiing

EDIT : The following information is wrong due to a misunderstanding on my part. Scroll to my next post for the truuuth!

So I didn't manage to get a scholarship for TAD. I've been accepted though...unfortunate that means I still can't attend at this moment. O well...back to the drawing board! It just means I need to work harder

So here are some boring studies. I've realised that I'm not working hard enough after browsing algenpflegers sketchbook again for that millionth time. He has probably drawn 10 times more than I've ever drawn.

    Hands+shameless wes study...sorry wes!!

Deliciousss esp. your figure drawings. The hands are really nice too!

The values in the imaginative stuff seem mushier compared to the values in the fig. drawing. Maybe emulating the direct light and clear values from the fig. drawings in your imaginative stuff?

    Ah..thanks for the comments guys!...
I think I need to clear the scholarship thing up...

I received an email this morning from Jason that I have in fact been awarded a scholarship

When I received the earlier email about the acceptance, and it did not mention the scholarship, I mistakenly thought I had not been awarded one. Also, the deadline for the scholarship announcements were up...I honestly believed I did not receive one.

I'm so grateful for all the support I've been receiving from the CA community and my family and friends. Thank all of you soo much < 3

Whether or not I'll still be able to attend TAD remains to be seen (finances), but I can't thank all the instructors from TAD and the Illustration Academy enough for considering my application and awarding me with one of the scholarships.
    Thanks guys!

This still means I have to work even harder though!

The hand study-pages are great, but the nude figures and the portraits are formidable! I want to have your discipline to draw 2 or more hours on one page.
