After some time without painting, I decide to make one portrait of one of my favorite chars on Street Fighter series. She's Rainbow Mika, from SFZ3. She has a dream, and fight for it! It's still on beginning, but I'd apreciate comments and crits.

well the rendering is coming along nicely.. but the drawing is incorrect, anatomy wise.
for starters.. her head is very small. then, her body doesnt seem to have a lot of form, like hip bones or ribr and such. its just one large mass. lastly, her foot seems a bit small.
this could be an interesting piece, but these 'hits' are keeping it from becoming so. - JAG
it's only after you've lost everything, that you're free to do anything..
Thanks JAG. I don't think she's so terrible as you say, but as I didn't get replies except yours, I think you're right, she's terrible
Anyway, I fixed the size of head and a couple more things, hope she's a bit better now.
Yea this is much better now. Some things to work out before you mess up your very soft/well done rendering: She has no neck, even when you look over your shoulder you have a bit more neck than that. It makes her looks stumpy. Also try to rework that foot, it looks a bit clownish. Perhaps since its a woman shoe have it taper more around the toes. Or if its a big stomping kind of boot then youre going to have more wrinkles within that excess material on the foot. Those couple issues are the only things really bringing down the extremely well rendered skin and costume. Good work.
this is a really neat approach. when i paint i rely too heavily, i think, on building up layers of low opacity colour.
The way you've done this everything ends up looking real solid. I have no crits really.
It's just a good piece of work.
Are you going to bring the rest of the image up as well? or leave the background and things pretty loose? i kinda like it like that.
He didn't say it was terrible, just that there are things you can improve. I would have said the same things. The head is too small, there's not enough shape to the body, and the feet look odd.Originally Posted by jramauri
If you don't want criticism you shouldn't post your work. If you want sunshine blown up your butt, show it to your mom. She thinks everything you do is wonderful.
It's responses like yours that make others afraid to be critical, and some people (like me) really want harsh, honest criticism.
Nexus: Thanks man for your tips, I'll improve those points and then post the new version.
robotnik: Thank you very much. I don't know yet about the BG, but my initial intention was just make a detailed work on the girl.. Maybe I'll just put some lights or something like that, to make it not so empty. I like the loose approach too.
Longxiang: I know what he said, I was just kidding. And I think your comment is very rude. I always hear the crits and I'm very grateful for everyone that help me to improve something or help me to see what I can't by myself. What make me a bit bored most times is the lack of comments, because I don't know what to think about.
I'm not a kid showing sketches for mommy, don't know why you're saying this.
Be more careful saying things like this. If you do for someone whose mother have already died this person could be offended.
Yes, God forbid somone might be offended.Originally Posted by jramauri

Because who knows, I could be born without any hands and be drawing with my teeth, and I might be offended if you said anything unhappy about my artwork.
Uhm, I didnt make that last quote there Longxiang. Not sure why you have my name next to it. As far as people being afraid of harsh crits. Yes youre right. Most people come to this site to hear nice things but there are still plenty of people who will give heart-crushingly brutal crits because they know its necessary. Just gotta ignore the people who say things such as "Wow this is the greatest thing ever!!!!!" People who only want those crits never become real artists and will disappear on their own, like survival of the fittest.
I already post my crit at your cgtalk version of the thread
Nexus, I thought CA was about harsh crits and that's a major reason why I come here. I guess if you give honest crit you can be seen as 'bitch' to some people rather than "person who slipped me some worthwhile advice".
Frostblade, it "was" about the harsh crits. The important word here is "was." I've been coming here for easily 3 or more years now and trust me at one point it was all about providing helpful crits and improving as an artist. I've seen CA.org veer far away from what it once was. I sincerely hope that it doesn't become like Deviantart, where the only things that make it to the front page are anime.....poorly done anime.
Nothing to say. It's just getting great!
The rendering is superb, but she seems to be pregnant!!!
