great updates man !! keep it up ... by the way dont give up on the character painting ...seems like ur stuck on it .... try to learn some shortcuts (unless maybe u already know them ) ... for example use the key "x" for foreground and background color switch , customize brushes urself for example use opacity jitter on pen pressure etc. (then u dont have to keep changing opacity every time etc.) and just scribble ... dont get stuck on one part for too long just scribble as errors can EASILY be corrected on the computer !!!!! ... i would suggest that u take a break from that character and get back to it later ...
keep updating![]()
A la Bapsi: Thank you, the vacation went well. Yes it's a great idea that I should have done sooner...
Arteater: You're welcome, good luck on your anatomy studies.
Vibhas: Yeah I'm pretty stuck with that one, probably working too long on it but I will work on it later, it's just that I like that one. Thanks for the short cut tips!
Mydrim: I think you're lost in time. Also, I went on a vacation...
WIP of my current illustration:
lol sorry, I was on some old page and it was late at night (though not sure about that.. lost in time indeed)
Now I checked it all and I like very much the pen enviros! The muscle girls with tails, um, that's one of the few fetishes I am not into. Anyway, it's your tastes, keep posting!
Mydrim: Ah, I understand the confusion then. It's cool that you have your own opinion about it ofcourse.
Here is the background of my upcoming illustration. Check this topic for a step by step progress and help me a little by giving advice if you feel like.

You're probably not done with the clouds, but I'll give my c&c anyway. 8D;
The colors suggest instensity, but the values, shown in that greyscaled version of your sky, suggest placidity calm.
I don't know what your intended for your sky to express, but I find a shot of a girl speeding off on a broom would be exciting.
In short--Pump your values up in the background. It'll help tons.![]()

Thanks A la Bapsi.
Well, here's the result of my illustration. Took me (too) long enough. Yes she's muscular and I'm still nog sure about her butt... It might me overkill haha.
Brun: Thanks, your illustrations are great too.
Okay, I'm going to do some studies for a while next to some project I want to do. My study plan is to take for some days or more (depending on the time I have) to study different body parts of the human being. I start with the skull of the head, more sub studies of the head and other parts will follow as I make progress. The last study is from imagination.

Nice studies.
Makes me wish I had that constructive anatomy book by bridgman. *__*

That's some awesome stuff you have there. Have you ever tried drawing a vehicle of some sort?

Bapsi: Thanks, more to come. It's a lot of work and sometimes a bit boring though doing the same subject for a day, but you'll remember more then doing many subjects at once.
Seraph: Thank you. I tried doing some vehicles from life. I want to study them after I have more confidence in human anatomy. I did some boats for a comic I'm publishing anyway! Like this. As for imagination vehicles, I prefer mechs and Star Wars walkers and fighters.
Fleshed skulls! I won't skip this part from my head studies like I did after the beginning of this sketchbook. It's important to know how expressions are made by muscles. There is also a website with expressions and muscle explanation but I cannot find it at this moment. I highly recommend it from what I remember! Sadly no imagination stuff at the end of the day. Maybe later.

Not much but better then nothing, I think I understand the head muscles a little bit more by now...
This is from Posemaniacs...

Update timez! (attachment acts weird!)
A face study about how the mouth works. Second one came out odd comparing to the orignal pencil from Gordon him self. He looks nervous hence the sweat.
Part of a loosen up practice and decided to add some quick fleshed skulls from front and profile. I need to practice more with my pen brush.
Posemaniacs stuff, male / female.
Here's even some more Posemaniacs as a bonus for today! Male and female heads. Oh lord, I did the same angle on the last female head from the last post...
your front, side and every view in between at a normal angle sketches of a head are looking great, but it seems you're sorta struggling with higher or lower shots of a head.
this really helped me out with those angles. :]
i hope it helps you too <3

The thing with the heads in perspective is that you have to make sure that the key landmarks of the head all are aligned in perspective. or they will surely fall apart. I find that it's best to utilize grids to help place anchors for the landmarks in perspective to make things easier to figure out from. this will help you pull off the illusion of 3 dimensions.

Thanks for the tips, a la bapsi and Crazy dude. I try to take it more simple when examining these head angels, because I'm very poor at this as I speak.
I'm having some fun with hatching lately and I think it's a great excersize for me since I like to do black and white illustrations more then colour at the moment.

yay for hatching!
Hatching/anything with ink goes hand in hand with comic art.
;ALKSJDLKFJ LKJ KEEP DOING IT.

Always room for experimentation... that is what makes things interesting. these different hatching techniques could be found very useful when your trying to add different textures to an object. Y'd might like to check out Gustave Doré some wicked pensmanship there...
Looking good there, studies as serious character painting. Have you thought about making fast photo studies like alpenfenger does? it might help you with using colour (something i will start practising today)

A la Bapsi: I agree and I want to do making comics very badly when time allows!!
SRD: Hey thanks for the link, too bad cross hatching illustrations on the computer at a low resolution are a pain to view. I do have a book from Piranesi, cross hatching and architectual madness I'll say.
Nettle Mountain: Yes, I have thought about that and I saw his topic, another very dedicated artist who puts me to shame, yet so inspirational. I tried to do a CG painting from life, but had not much time to finish it yet.
Here's a life drawing from a wooden car I made a very long time at secondary school. Note that the back wheels are that longer then the front wheels!
Random scribbles I did over the month. It's not much, but I's busy with internship. When that's over (halfway January), I hopefully can dedicate my self to drawing how it's supposed to be...
My first life CG drawing, It's a miniature AT-TE. Still in progress...
Hi WhiteVillage!
I'm impressed by your handling of form in your studies. It must be because you are a comic artist, but the way you draw landscapes and interiors is so exact!
Maybe one thing to be careful about is your colours. I notice u tend to colour everything in with colours that are all high-saturation, and really vivid & intense. This is a bit overwhelming because even if your composition is done well, the colours don't give any direction to the viewer as to where the main focus is meant to be.
May u have lots of success and lots of fun with your art!
Hey Curiousmoth, thanks for stopping by and thank you for the reply! Thanks for your advice about the colours as well, it's really something I have to work on it as a life saver!
Busy with a new illustration, but I will show it hopefully soon here at CA when I have enough material. For now I update my own blog.
Referenced from Bon a parte flyer.
Couches, drawn from a furniture flyer.
Bridgman, his work improved my whole art in general I think. Can't have enough Bridgman!
This time no art related post, but a thoughtful one.
When I look back one year ago in this sketchook and my art in general, I dare to say that I was working and studying my ass off with joy. Now since the beginning of this year, I haven't done as much as I wanted. It's maybe easy to say, but since I'm working at internships, my will to grind and to draw for fun has taken off a lot. Because the workload and traveling time distances takes a combination of energy and time. Now I'm sure people say that I'm just lazy and I asked that my self a lot often as well, but I do try to do at least something a day, but It just won't do it.
In my summer holiday, I had another factor that was playing along against drawing: Anxiety for my own work. I'm now through this but as I stated before, I just don't have the time in the end till mid January. I will hope this is all over then and I can dedicate my self at drawing again. Because I want to do this as work in the end. Although I have a lot to learn, this is what I want to do in the end. But it will take time to archieve, lots of it.
Thanks for reading and I hope to post something very soon despite all this!
Forget my last post, I will try to draw as much as I can in the evening. It's now or never... Not sure how long I can do this straight.
Arm studies from Bridgman. Will move on to other resources when I'm done with Bridgman. I'm very weak at the under arm. More will follow hopefully soon.

Thanks Bluemonika, arms can be difficult to draw, especially the fore arm. Too detailed and confusing to me for now.
More arms.
