Arrow The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

---> Now remember there's ol' drawings up front... the good sheet's in the back <---

I have been doodling around for the better part of 20 years (I'm 22 as of this post)... after High School I couldn't get started in actually participating in anything collage related and I had to help out with my house's financial situation... I had gotten back on-line about a few months ago and started again... this time I'm mostly working on a larger anatomical study to help out in creating a more interesting view into my bizarre head...

And for anyone wanting to put my drawings on the chopping block feel free to do so... I need to know where I am making my mistakes to better understand where I need to go...

    A couple more sketches...

Here be this week's toss to the chopping block; I wanna try playing around with my dust collecting acrylics and see what I can do... I have to review myself on perspective a bit.

(Again, all older images are in the link...)

Nice studies...I know what you mean about the nausea. That painting is great, I've never seen it. Any chick that wears wheat in her hair and keeps a cucumber handy is alright by me.

A small update this week... Not many drawings to display

    --> Lady Hydralisk <--
Thanks for saying something, I was beginning to think that I was talking at a wall...

I'm hoping to move soon to save some more money by not spending it on gas and propane... If things go right, I'll be able to save some cash to get into some drawing classes and painting classes... I hope a more structured environment might help me out a bit more... But til then I'll keep with my current studies.

    An unfinished still-life...

I found some of my kneaded eraser and thought it would be high time to try something I seen done... I used a bit of a half ass try at the method that Magic Man used in the recreation study of the Mona Lisa, except it is only a HB pencil. I didn't really use graphite powder from a jar but had a small colection from trying to find a better point for my pencil. I actually found it fun and educational... It makes use of a maliable middle ground that pushes the whites out as well as pushes the darks in... I'm gonna pull off some more drawing with the found eraser... If I lose it again I will beat myself retarded.

Hey man some nice studies in here! When doing master studies I would really recommend that you focus on a smaller area and do what you can with that, it's a bit daunting and really exhausting to try and take on the whole thing. Remember, they were masters and probably spent days and days and days on their paintings.

I noticed your lines are a bit 'chicken-scratchy at times Try to say as much as you can with one or two thought out strokes and with as much simplicity and efficentcy as you can. Think economy.

Also I think you might get a darker pencil or two to help you think about values and value contrast perhaps?

    Cheers!

hi. your doing the right things. good stuff. to add on to what apathy said... when doing a master study it is also kinda important to do it with the same medium. Look at some excellent draftsmen (Ingre, Michealangelo, Egon) when doing drawings. and good painters when doing paintings. Doing it the same way will help you to understand why the artist did what they did.

    Thank you for your comments...

<<< Again, cleaning house here so check the link on the top to see all older crap >>>

Thanks, Idiot Apathy and SantaClaus, I understand the need for a darker pencil and I will be trying out some other mediums to try to achieve it... I have been playing with some pens and hatching out some other studies... I would enjoy to try to actually paint with the same mediums but I haven't the income at this point of my life to try them out..

    That be it for now...

Your Hogarth studies seem to be coming along nicely. As far as the "chicken scratch" remark, I know how you feel, but eventually you will get more confident with your line, and wont have to draw it several times. For me, working in pen has really helped with that, since you have to be more sure of yourself, and where you apply lines. Good idea to break updates into more managable posts. thanks for the reply in my SB

Yep, that is also the same reason I have went to pens also... that and the fact that my only ebony pencil crapped out on me... but now I have gotten a set of Monolith woodless pencils of various grades and I must say that 9b is nice... verrrrry nice.

I cannot believe how little attention this sb is getting!!!!!
You have some great sketches in here.
Im in full admiration of your switch to pen.
One thing maybe you could try is to shade the background in some sketches to really bring out the form.
Your line quality has great and has improved lots, awesome studies aswell, great sketchbook! It deserves ALOT more attention.

I appreciate it Crofty... I think my SB isn't really getting as much attention because of my lack of posting consistently... (that and the fact of it being a 56k'ers worst nightmare.)

    And now something completely different...

I'll be changing around this thread for bandwidth to make it a bit more accessible... most of the older drawings will be taken down and links provided instead...

But here is an update on my s.b.

some good improvement in the faces like in the last image of the last post Though I would suggest not worrying about the rendering and concentrate on working the lines. If the lines are placed correctly, it will look right regardless if there are any rendering or not. When doing faces, before putting anything down, study the face and see the relationship between the features such as how it lines up, the distance and angles, etc. These little things can mean the difference of the sketch resembling the person or not

Thank you and that is one of my major goals... My line control imho (trying out this web talk crap hehehe... oops lol) is one of my weakest aspects, however I believe that I have come a long way in the seven months since I started the little green book (some will be seen in this next post) and in this year I hope to pwn the line like the preverbial prison bitch... (so hows my web talk, I think I might try to be original and never do that again unless it's in jest.)

I also found this one way back and forgot to show it off here, a master study of Leo's Anunciation
