need help buying a new computer

I have roughly $1800 to spend on a computer. I have decided to go with the XPS but am unsure what model to get. The computer will be used for creative purpose only. Meaning for graphic interface like: 3ds, Maya, Photoshop… So, if you know a lot about computer I would great appreciate the help in finding the best computer that will fit my needs. Also, what operating system is the best to be running right now?

If you are really into getting a tight working, reliable and easy to maintain machine you should devinetly think about getting a mac. With your money you can get a 20" iMac. it´s a real bargain including a state of the art monitor.
You should even have money left to get at least a small Intuos. Don´t go for graphire if you can afford an Intuos.

OS X 10.4 and related is the most secure and stable OS I´ve encountered so far. And there´s a ton of software availlable for artists and for other stuff too. Often for free or token amount of money. (Even games. Most games get ´ported pretty fast for OS X nowadays. Plus you now can get boot camp and play the PC version too.) Often for free or token amount of money.

I am not made of money too, but getting an Apple for my worth of money was one of the most, if not the one most worthwhile investion I ever made. You don´t get as much out your dough anywhere else. I work proffesionally in graphics and entertainment for almost ten years now and I´ve allways found the mac superior to even highly specialized Windows running computers. Okay, they can fuck up too, but I spent MUCH MUCH more time maintaining a single PC than an entire network of apples. And frankly I like to work and create art and not become a maintaince computer geek.

    that´s my two cents.
    Hope it helps
