Thanks Bhanu. Your comment brightened my day. Made me feel all special and that. Nice to know that my stuff gets looked at. Really appreciate it. I'm gradually starting to get back on the drawing bandwagon. I've really missed it with going into teaching. Hope I can sustain it.
I've been experimenting with Chinese brushes for ages now. I'm only just about getting confident enough to start drawing with them properly, rather than just making experimental marks. Don't think I've ever encountered a medium so veratile.
If I don't post again before, Merry Christmas all.

Dope Fiend: Thanks for your comment, I've written on your thread
Ladyknowles: Thanks to you too. Appreciated.I've also written on your thread.
Jeppe: Maybe I'll post some machines one day, when I can work out the programming. No good if they don't work. Watch this space.
Copied these. Music Lesson and A Temporary Setback. Norman Rockwell's one of my favourite artists. I love the character he manages to effortlessly portray. Which is what I'd ultimately love to be able to catch a fraction of. A true master.
Hey man... great sense of humor. I like the subversive elements to what you're doing... very fine.
I came upon your thread from Dope Fiend's thread where you commented this:
And then I read this in your latest post:Hey Dopefiend, you're a skilled artist, especially if you didn't take this in school. Probably a bonus that you didn't. School can restrict folk. You look like you're developing your own voice, which is a great thing in my opinion.
I'm sincerely interested in your thoughts on how someone like Rockwell accomplished his mastery. On the one hand you're advocating a person's own voice, and on the other you advocate development of some kind.
How do you imagine Rockwell was able to capture character as well as he did... as well as convey his message as well as he did? How was he able to communicate?
Maybe it's just my neurons not firing properly... I just don't have the information. Maybe you have some insights into that.
Thanks,
Chad
Don't believe everything you read on the internet - Abe Lincoln
How good are you?

Hey Chad, thanks for the reply.
I think that Rockwell was just committed to the cause. I know that he referenced shit loads, both photos and real life. Family, friends and neighbours. To mix the real with the imagined and apply your reference to new and interesting situations and narratives is the key maybe. I suppose having a raw talent must help.
Not that my opinion counts for much. Maybe we'll get there one day eh?
This is a re-working of an older piece, which I've since taken off this thread. This is probably my one and only canvas. I'm not a natural painter. The background took ages to mask, the letters are airbrushed.

Been dabbling in horror images. Drawn on Ipod. Colour sketches to be worked up at a later date.

More horror images. Frankenstein's monster and Interrupted. Really enjoying getting to understand the versatility of Colors! on the Ipod. Great little program. Really challenging attempting to draw in such a limited space.
