Love your sketchbook a lot! Adding my two cents to AimBiz's feedback - I second keeping a more consistent format across the cards, but if for some reason you can't, try to at least have the text going in the same direction on the creature card. Maybe mimicking a RPG status screen could work in terms of condensing the amount of space the statistics take? Also, I'd play around with fonts a bit more, that one doesn't scream demon goats just yet.

EDIT: Also, thanks for that great post on World Building, awesome advice there. You posted it while I was typing so I didn't see it at first.

I think I need to show the cards in action, some of that feedback doesn't completely work. In the meantime here is a quick tablet painting.

here are a couple more quick doodles. I am experimenting with using Photoshop layers to mimic a renderers lighting passes. It is not quite there yet, but I like some of my results.Name: sandman.jpg

here is an example of Gruff in action. The goat cards are always in play, so I gave them a different format than the ones you hold in your hand.A goat's stats change every round, the slider bars track that for me. I agree with the feedback of the font not feeling appropriate, and I need to format the cards such that the rules do not overlap with the art.Name: Gruff breakdown.jpg

Here are a couple more portrait doodles. I would really like to figure out how to make complete characters out of all these faces I have been making, in order to make a card game with them. It is something I will screw around with in the near future. Any suggestions would be super welcome.

Hey man! Thanks for stopping by. I wish I can do pencil sketches as you..maybe someday Anyway to the pictures you posted yesterday, I think both can use some correction on contrast front. The values are kinda flat and that make your cool designs little bit uninteresting. But nothing what cannot be improved by curve tool in Photoshop or adding some darker tones (I am envious of your slate btw.). I made you quick comparission how much difference it makes. And sorry if I am telling you things you already know, just trying to be useful

I put a couple more hours into my king sketch. I changed a couple elements of the drawing and pushed the values a little further.

concerning my paper,I am just using a regular moleskin. It yellows a little when I correct the levels in Photoshop.

Cojac thanks for the kind words. I will definitely keep drawing.

really interesting card game man! and you got sound drawing skill but i think you use too much front shots, play with more dynamic angles and start getting extreme i know you can push it anyways great stuff keep it up!

I like them sketches. Nice hatching.

About the paintings. Be mindful where you put your contrast. A general guide-line is to put the lowest and highest values where the focal points are. On some of your faces the eyes are pretty bright and get lost to some other seemingly insignificant detail that's put in a spot of higher contrast.
Your drawings on the other hand has the opposite going on. The focal points are clear and nice. Transfer this to your paintings. Paint as you would draw sort of.

    Hello mate .
Since you are rendering these characters as 3d objects i think your improvements can be made in values and composition. The contrast that jakubvavrik added is important. Other than that you would need to limit it to the most important area. I would keep the high contrast in the main face area and i would darken out everything else. However i am not sure on what style you aim for. But even if stylized you would have to show more defined shapes. I did a paintover , rendering some more the portrait but it may be contrary to what you aimed for that certain artwork. I hope there might be something useful on it anyway
Almost always its a matter of values

[i worked it while in greyscale, for the base color i just duplicated your color rough and placed it on a color mode layer above the new greyscale]
