The following character shows three major steps of my design process. I feel like the highlights in the color one add alot. Is there a way to bring the highlights out a little more on the grayscale image.

I was going to give that exact same link to him.

I think the colored one is the weak link of the 3 to be honest. white highlights / black shadows is something that you would rarely see in real life. Let alone in illustration. The tutorial that JFWalls gave you is great. There's also another really good one by IdiotApathy. Check It Out.
