Hey! Your SB is really nice. Love all the anatomy studies you've been doing on the previous pages. Also really like the Fat Billy concept for the boogeyman

    Hi
I really like your lines and post #206, and 151
Also the anatomy practices are nice.
I like your environmental paintings a bit better than your character ones, you are a bit more fresh on environments, but characters are quite nice too.
To say something bad/criticizing also: your last Chow's head seems a bit too much like the bogeyman from Nightmare Before Christmas (sorry, I hate to tell things like this, but the similarity is that big for me), and also with the body being that stripy, it stars to look like a Tim Burton fan-picture (I don't know the exact expression).

On #157 the shading makes the picture a bit crappy, too "hairy" if you know what I mean.
Also, some of #127's little creatures are really funny. The snail one and the chicken-fish.
All in all, you have a nice understanding of anatomy, and you are quite good mister!
So, if you could now check my stuff, and criticize it, and also rate my sketchbook? it seems noone checks a sketchbook if it's not rated.

Hi, my reply could only be displayed graphically, but your response has been very usefull, although, I don't know if it is SO alike (the resemblance is obvious, but don't know if it's just as much as you say), would need some more confirmation from other people. I think that if you star getting too picky with resemblances you may wipe out 3/4 of the characters that exist, period.
Thanks a lot, I'll see your SB RIGHT NOW.

Eh, you are right about the whole Tim Burton stuff, and this is why I don't like people comparing stuff to other, and now I've made the same, shame on me!
About the thing you've written in my sketchbook, that I rely too much on references, what do you think I could do to make it less obvious what's referenced and what's not? Draw more?
Anyhow, I like your stuff, and see you at the finishline of Chow! (by the way I didn't use reference for my Chow, do you think it shows?)

you my friend have one sick twisted mind and i'm luving it, really dig post 213, your value work is definitely tip =) as for boogey man chow I actually like the idea of plan b in post 217 reminds me a little of the main villain from spawn and with the right underlighting i think that can look very frightening

as for originality in character concepts, concepts I feel are still derived from ideas, shapes, values, colors, or whatever else you can think of from previous works, movies, designs or anything else you look at and store in the memory bank, so I agree with you lennon in that, 'too picky with resemblances you may wipe out 3/4 of the characters that exist'

I think what makes it your own is to introduce new shapes or design, kind of like orchestrating it so it gels to you as well as the viewer.

great work and hope to see more!!

-hungryan: It was a great chritique, keep doing them like that.
-snootchy: Hey thanks a lot, I also think that PLAN B may be going up. I have a good idea for that one, so, who knows?... Thanks a lot for stopping by!

"When I was a kid my mother used to tell me to give my extra clothes to charity, but I wouldn't.
"One day I noticed that there was a thin thread of light on the border of my closet, and when I open the door, I saw this little character. It wasn't scary as it was very little, it was made out of those clothes and the clothes hangers.
"But as more and more clothes start pilling up, the creature start growing more and more, and it was able to change shape!!...

I'm thinking of something like this, but will add more shapes, and perhaps a little comic of the genesis.

Really creative stuff in here man, I love seeing the creative process on the clothing-monster.

I don't know if you're still planning on finishing that bolshevik demon in post 211, but the one thing that i notice is that the lighting is kinda bland and there isn't a whole lot of contrast. I think pushing the shadows and colors (warm hues specifically) would help it pop.

I did a quick burn/adjustment to try and illustrate my point.

This was my final version for the chow. I wasn't able to finish it properly; and it isn't making that well in the competition, but I liked the proyect, and I learned a lot.
The face is made with the bag were the cloth was supoused to be.
I like the character and I think it has some potential to be developed better later. I'd like to make it in 3d, perhaps even a short, but I won't because I'm lazy.

So, here it is, it's just a quick sketch.

As I liked the BG, I thought about actually putting one character, so I start making this one, because I don't know much about Egypt and this guy was the first one that came into my mind.
To make it more spicy, I thought that the reason why it looks like a bird, is because this alien race used to think that men and birds were the most inteligent beens in the planet (both equal). So, some aliens produced this bird head to relate better with them.
The thing that's before his head, is like a lens were image get proyected (sort of like a tv). As he doesn't know our lenguage, he talks by the means of pictures. So if he want's you to go somewhere, he produces an image of you going there.
I always think that comunication with the aliens could be a pain in the ass, so this method seems cool and very advanced.

This is still a sketch, but the weird composition is explained by the rule (chow rule) that state that 3/4 of the guy should be in sight. I'll see how I correct this.

I WILL GO TO EVERYONE'S THREAD AS PROMESSED, AND ALSO ANSWER HERE, BUT NOT RIGHT NOW.

If the moon is in the BG, I'ld be inclined to give the character and the scaffold in the foreground really deep shadows on the viewers side. Really give it some drama, go a bit wild on it. Great idea though - I like the concept that the Egyptian god is massive. Your bogeyman is a neat concept too. I must go over to the vote now, thanks for reminding me. I like the wardrobe detritus he's made of - really great way to express his origins! Good work.

I love the texture and use of contrast, though. Hands and feet can be a pain - so many tiny bones and muscles! The placement of the arms seems a little awkward. Do you do a skeleton/structural drawing underneath in the sketchy stages of your work?

ereilly, thanks for stopping by. Yeah I know that it looks really bad, I tend no to finish the hands (it takes me to long), and so it looks deform, it's actually more towards the camera. Should practice more on that. I do use some basic drawing, here you can see.
