Painter IX is slow when using auto paint or certain brushs

Hello!

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

My computer has the following

AMD 64 3200
1 Gig Memory
100 Gig SATA Drive.

When I auto paint certain pictures or use lets say an oil brush. When I paint strokes move/show up very slow. I can stroke the picture and about 1-2 seconds later I see the stroke appear.

Is this because my picture is 29 MB? What size if this is the problem should I use to still get a good print on a 24x30 gallery wrap? Thanks in advance for any info.
